Why do you stunt?

Why does everyone stunt? For competition? For fun? Both? To be the man at your local bike night? I see alot of posts from people who want to help advance the sport and give it a good name and now we have the NSRA. Then I see posts from people who hate the idea of advancing the sport and want to stay street. I also notice from people that I've ridden with, they want to be good but don't want to put in the work and time and effort it takes to do so (quite a few people are like that I've noticed). Whats everyone's thoughts? What keeps you top guys motivated? Why do some guys want to stay street? I can't help but constantly think about riding and goin to my local stunt spot. It keeps me up at night. If I didn't push myself hard enough at my session, I think about it all the way home, while I'm in bed, and the next morning at work. I wanna talk to anybody I see with a helmet in their hand about riding. I browse to stuntlife.com at work (which I could get fired for lol). Anybody else this phsychotic?

Re: Why do you stunt?

I used to ride with an awesome crew last year, and we practiced everyday, nonstop. thats when I starded scrapin tail and getting better, but we kindof all went our separate ways. not alot of people really actually ride here in daytona, its kindof a slump right now. I am trying to get motivated myself, I love riding and getting better, and I want to be on ESPN, like the x games or somethin like that, but with all the drama, and people trash talking, it kindof seems like something that wont happen anytime soon, alot of the people out here are just kinda burnt out on it. It was more innocent and I actually had fun riding last year, but aftr being arrested like 3 times, and the BS with the cops chasing us around, and things of that nature, its hard for me to keep my head up. My driving record is absolutely ruined, but that ok. I still love bikes and always will, and I love the challenge, and I love progressing with my talent and meeting new people, but along with all the good stuff there is also alot of negatives. Its hard to stay positive in a negative world.

Re: Why do you stunt?

i started stunting when i did a 2nd gear wheelie down the highway i saw the look on the people faces and some kids give u the thumbs up, i just love to show off and just give the crowd a show, every sense then it was all or nothing, i would love to see this sport hit ESPN, i think it will as long as you have a dedicated few, there will always be those people that stay to the street and dont want anything to do with competions, but thats how it is in every sport road racing not everyone does it proffesionally but they still go out on late nights and run there bikes or there cars just for the thrill. the big corporations have to look past that and concentrate on the dedicated people that want more and want to make a career out of this.

Re: Why do you stunt?

its all about LOVE for the sport and to have FUN.......................

Will this sport ever get big enough soon enough or is it still years away? WHO CARES

I ride to have fun. I said it before and I'll say it again. If you dont have fun riding it will show in your riding. The people that have fun doing it are the ones that are out there busting their asses, dedicating themselves to learning new tricks. Right now all we have is videos and competitions. I think competitions just add to the fun and enjoyment of the sport. Theres nothing like busting your *** all year to get good enough for a competition. The weird thing about competitions is, I look forward more to riding and meeting everyone than I do the competition. I know it sounds weird but the actual practice session before the competitions is what its all about. Right now the sport is still in the early stages so competitions dont really do justice. We're still figuring out how to judge events and trying to see what competitons are the biggest crowd pleasers. I have seen so many riders ride but yet place horrible in competions. Ive also seen less talented riders place good in competitions yet not be as talented as the person that placed shitty. Thats what sucks right now about this sport. I guess it takes an actual rider to know who has talent and who doesnt. Its hard to believe a judge that has no clue about the sport. Are we going for wow factor or actual skill? Thats what sucks about competitions.

True that man . . . A wise man (DMX) once said "how can I maintain, with that sh** on my brain" . . . You guys got a spot up there? I'd throw my bike in the back of my truck and take a drive up there . . . I need some new people to ride with anyway lol

yea thats a tough balance to find . . . Who makes a better referee in the NBA? An ex-NBA player, or the old guy who knows the rulebook really well? On that note, is it more important to make a call from experience (being in the situation and knowing its not fair), or make a call by the books (Knowing what the rule says, and sticking to it). Only problem is, is the ref still useful if there were no rulebook?

I definately ride for fun, thats why I guess I'm so crazy about riding . . . I have a blast meeting people, have a blast pushing myself to learn new tricks, and think it would be sick to read stuff about this in a magazine or watch an event on ESPN . . .

Re: Why do you stunt?

Im not in it for the fame, fortune, glama, or shock value. I dont need to impress or please anybody but myself.. Im with E-DUb on this one, I do it to meet new peeps, and just have a good time while doing it. I dont even consider myself a stuntrider at this moment, Im a "stuntrider in training". Some people think cause they got 3 tricks they are a topnotch stuntrider...

And Im too like you Sylos, I've already been warned about being online, but I just cant stay away from stuntlife to long(lol)... This place is great, and I've talked/met alot of cool *** people from this site. And I love to come and see the videos, pics, and learn about stunts...

But the EGO's, Drama, And any other BS does get old sometimes... The forum that seems to get the most hits on here seems to be open disscussion and that seems to be where all the BS&drama all ends up being.

Thumbs up I stunt because...

...it just happened. It was a natural reaction, and now it's to excel. To better myself at something I am moderately skilled in. The adrenaline... it's a high you can't buy. The satisfaction of accomplishing what you couldn't do before... what other's said couldn't be done. The look on your friend's faces when they ask you to pull something off, and you drop it on call. First it's amazement, and then it's pride. I am addicted to "real danger", as Kyle puts it. It is the ultimate personal satisfaction for me to cleanly consistently execute tricks that could end my life. Not that I want it to end, but to be in control of it (as in control as any mortal could) to such an extent where your failing yourself could end yourself is where it's at for me.

I stunt for... Those moments of complete silence.

I got straight respect for CBO putting out this quote in BLACKSHEEPSQUAD...
CBO, "We're just fukin, just some straight up hard-core riders. You know what I mean? .....some say we're not a good representation of the sport cause we're hard-core, but hey you know what? I don't really give a ***, you know what I'm sayin? I'm in the sport because I wanna be in it."

Although it may be slightly off topic I have to say, I heard some people voicing their opinions about CBO on this board... about how they thought he comes off like he's got an attitude, because he's always talking about how he rides dirty bikes and don't give a ****. I'm not trying to come off all *** and ****, but I got mad respect for the kid. #1, All I have ever seen over the 1.5 years I've been here is a member who does his best to help further this board, and the knowledge of it's members through posts & pictures. And #2, He rocks a 600, and rocks it hard at that. The whole dirty bike bit... ****. I interpret that as just being tired of all the posers talkin ****. I work 70 HARD hours a week to support myself & my riding, but I live in one of the richest cities in Palm Beach County, FL, and when I see all the posers talk down on the real for riding bikes that actually get ridden & wrecked because they can just put out there hand to daddy & get a brand new GSX-R1000 for me at least it creates a similar resentment. Those glamma **** that call themselves stunnas because they lifted their front-tire a foot off the ground once, by accident, and go around telling the world they hit BP; those **** whose whole interest is to impress the hotties with their blinged out bikes and their BS stories; those **** are the SHEEPLE that at least I think he's saying *** YOU to. Please excuse my rant, but that's my

Damn I feel like you just said what I couldn't put into words . . . thats an awesome damn post man . . . All I've seen since I've gotten serious in progressing is people fall behind and get caught up keeping their bike "pretty" not realizing they all look like herbs when they pull up their 2 second wheelie and tell people they can stunt . . . I don't have any fairings on my bike, its ugly as hell, its an F4i, and I couldn't picture myself wanting any other bike . . . If I blow the motor, I'll get a new one . . . But its amazing to see when I pull up to bike night, the reaction people give to a bike thats really ridden . . . Where you at in palm beach? I got a spot here in Palm City, not to far north of you thats awesome . . . we've had martin county sheriffs out there just to watch . . .

It's an addiction - once I figured out the BP there was no turning back. I think I'll quit smoking before I'm no longer up on one.
