steel sprockets

steel sprockets
So I was cleaning my chain today, and noticed my vortex sprocket has nice sharp teef that are probably gonna break off soon. The problem is, I've only had that sprocket 3 months . . . it's two up above stock, and I can't find a steel sprocket to replace it with. I obviously don't wanna use stock teeth, where can I find a steel sprocket so I don't have to spend $50 every three months? (its not really much money I know, but its also not very reliable)

Did you replace your chain when you got a new sprocket? If you dont replace the chain at the same time, the new sprocket will wear down to where the old one was, almost overnight. Steel will wear down almost as fast.

Re: steel sprockets
so it's a 520 conversion and you have 520 front and 520 rear with a 520 chain?
that's odd it wore down. i've been running my 10 up sprocket, aluminum, for a year now of hard *** wear and it's fine. If the chain is too tight (definately too tight will wear a chain super fast) or if it's too loose, then the chain will wear like crazy. also if you axle isn't lined up properly then it'll wear the chain fast also.
i had a friend that did that and he was running his chain so tight you could barely move it. it should have about 1" of play in it.

Re: steel sprockets
[QUOTE=slylos] i don't think it'll matter what you buy, something is obviously wrong because i've beaten the **** out of my aluminum sprocket for a year now and it's barely showing wear. i adjust the chain once a week, keep it lubed, and make sure it's properly aligned. Until 3 weeks ago i was still running a non-oring chain and still no wear. whatever you do, you're going to have to fix the problem first, before putting any new sprocket on or you'll just eat through that one too.
