f3 street gearing

I'm running -1/+1 now and I wanna run more gear, but don't wanna go any smaller up front because of the extra stress on the chain. What's a good number to run in the back on these things and not make them completely unrideable on the street and ok for the occasional highway blast?

Re: f3 street gearing

I was looking at -1/+6. I haven't seen anymore than -1 and like +9 in stock chain size. I don't really wanna go to a smaller chain size. I wanted to do -2/+3 to keep my stock chain but I have yet to find a company that makes a -2 in stock size.

Anyways back to your question I guess it depends on what you call acceptable street riding. -2 +3 is approx. 120mph top speed. You need to go faster than that? Just go up to +3 or 4 in back and leave -1 in front. Just remember -1 in front is equal to +3 in the rear. IE. -1/+6 would be equal to the -2/+3 gearing.... or 120mph top speed.

Re: f3 street gearing

120 is cool with me, I rarely see over 100, but I've been known to blast down the highway on occasion.

oh yea, I'm running a 520 chain, so being able to run the stock chain doesn't matter.

Re: f3 street gearing

I rocked just +6 for a while....it was pimp. -1 +6 would tear **** up. After that I switched to -2 +6, that was also pimp. I found out that you can't go wrong with +17....but -2 +17 is where it's at. I ride it around town everyday it still will hit 100-105 ish.

For normal crusing and some wheelies I'd rock the -1 +6 or something like +12. It would wake that F3 up

Re: f3 street gearing

I've got -1+5 and I love it on my F3, I just installed these two weeks ago. Picks up quick, and I can still hang with my buds on the highway. I believe mine tops out around 120-125(speedo says 130mph) but thats more than fast enough for me. I'd try this first, but I had to move up to a chain with 115 links. Might move up to +10 later on.

Re: f3 street gearing

Thanks for the help.

Do you guys know if it's cool to get 2 more rivet master links and use the extra chain links I didn't use for my current sprockets to lengthen my chain? It's only a few months old so I don't wanna replace it.

Re: f3 street gearing

im +10 on tha back of my F1. **** is so sweet. the bike should have came outta the factory like that. i can rock legal highway speeds at about 7-8 grand. not sure what its capable of on the top end. i had to add about 6 links and another master. just do the back first incase u dont like it. then u can go down in the front later if u want more.
