f3 gearing question
what up guys, i just bought a DID 520 and vortex front and rear sprockets.
the kid at the counter said that ill lose top end which i know but he said at cruising speeds on the highway[ 60-80mph] ill be taching out pretty good. i was wondering what speeds and rpms you guys are runing with a -1,+3 gearing. he also said with this much gearing first gear will be kinda useless and that a 520 chain setup is very easy to snap. is this true
thanks in advance

Re: f3 gearing question
i have the exact same setup on my 97 F3 and at like 75 you will be at 7500-8000 rpms and it will mess up your speedometer by like 10% or so. in first the thottle will be a lot more sensitive and throttle control on 1st geear wheelies will be much more difficult, but now 2nd gear wheelie will be easy as pie.
the topend of the bike will be decreased by like 10% as well but you will get there much faster than before and the front may lift in 1st under acceleration.
if you have anymore questions about the gearing or F3's in general pm me and i can answer them or get the answer for them.
later and get out and wheelie that biotch...

Re: f3 gearing question
have you changed to the 520 yet? i am just curious to see what your top speed is actually cause my speedo is messed up cause of the gearing. also i would like to know what speed 1st will do before you have to shift. if you need any parts for the F3 pm cause i have some extra stuff laying around cause i am cleaning out the garage.
if you are looking to not gear it up that much than -1/+3 might not be your choice. you can stick with the 530 and just go -1 front or +3 in the back if you chain is still good. one of my buddies did that and i can rock 1st and 2nd gears all day on his... 2nds you'll have to standup or clutch but its better than stock.
if you havent gotten the 520 -1/+3 you should ask yourself what you really want to do with your bike?
stunting?
twisties?
cruising for chicks?
cause if you want to stunt or hit the twisties -1/+3 will be money well spent and you will love it once you do it.

Re: f3 gearing question
well i orderd my sprockets the other day. should be here on the 15th. i got the chain sitting on my work bench. itll be a minute before i can ride that bike. since the weather up here is taking a dump starting tommorow and i need to get it all legal before i bring it out. as far as riding i like hitting twisties but looking to do some wheelies but not stunting it. as far as parts the only part i need the little spring that controls the rear brake light.[off the arm to the plunger of the inverted switch] and a decent rad. mine works but is bent up a little bit.
