Extended Frame Sliders Vs. Regular

I am looking to put frame sliders on my bike for a short while until I can weld and fabricate a crash cage together. The choice is between extended sliders vs. Regular sliders... and plastic vs. polished. I heard polished where bad because they gripped the pavement and flipped the bike back over... then I heard that they slide to far.. I also need to know if I put extended frame sliders on what will they save in addition to the ones the shorter ones would already do.. Also would the extended slider be more likely to flip the bike back over to the other side if laid down. Sorry for the long post. thanks,

Re: Extended Frame Sliders Vs. Regular

what the slider does is help absorb the impact... so the polished ones (probably all metal) would not be smart since all it will do is transfer all the force to the frame. And sliders are not plastic, they are more like nylon. THose are the best because they wear off ... those absorb the energy which saves your bike. Extended sliders will not help flip the bika back over because they are not that much longer than regular sliders.. seriously. They just protect more.. a lot of the regular sliders do not come far enough out to protect the whole side... just must of it.

I was wondering the same thing myself (Which ones are better?). I too have a 900RR and I was looking at the FI extended sliders, are they good quality?

just make sure ya get the nylon ones... stay away from anything thats just a solid hunk of metal. You need the material to absorb the impact. I believe intuitive has a selection of extended frame sliders

Better yet dont get sliders and go with a cage... i had sliders and they didnt do anything but snap off and allow my stator cover brake and clutch lever, and gear foot lever to brake.. That was from about a 15 mph crash... The sliders were the first things to brake as soon as the bike hit them they didnt slid at all... They should call them snappers If your stunting save your money and get a cage.. havent boken anything since i bought mine...
