Re: **any of u guys snaped a chain?**

a friend of mine snapped a chain on a R1, **** went right through both the upper and lower case of the motor. lesson learned, keep it lubed, and after 20,000 miles change it, no matter how good it looks

Re: **any of u guys snaped a chain?**

well, clutching a 400 pound bike up puts alot of abnormal wear and tear on the whole driveline, the R1 i was talkin about was never stunted, but had some head work, made like 160 some HP to the wheel. i have a 12 with over 170 to the wheel, and never had a problem, best way to check the chain is to look at the play it has side to side. if you can grab the chain while its on the bike, and pull it sideways more then a inch, replace it

Re: **any of u guys snaped a chain?**

chains stretch out when being stunted, keeping it lubed prevents heat which can increase chain stretch, u should check ur chain tension before u ride. i've only lost a chain once and that was b/c my masterlinks clip came out and eventually snapped the masterlink off, the sad part is it took me a good 1/2 an hour to figure out what my bike could run in all the gears, but it wasn't going anywhere, i thought i did something to my clutch haha.

Re: **any of u guys snaped a chain?**

I broke a chain once. I am not sure if it was an o-ring or what but I was riding my old beater when I weas in 8th grade. It was an old '71 Honda CB 550. I was beating it up as usual and I finally on my way home. I live on a hill about 1.5 miles upwards. Then it begins to level out the back up. Well, I punch it to get up the hill faster taking turns like the demon it was. Then all of a sudden, snap. It just reved and when I look behind me, it looked like a snake on the ground like you see in the summer time... So, I had to get a new one....

But so far not yet.

Re: **any of u guys snaped a chain?**

haven't snapped one yet, I guess I look after my **** . Anyway when I changed my chain this past fall I was missing teeth from the rear sprocket, what a difference with new chain and sprockets. Took only half the effort to wheelie

Re: **any of u guys snaped a chain?**

I'm planning on going -2 +2 and getting an new chain because right now my chain is as tight as i can make it and it still isn't that tight. it got stretched out from clutching wheelies alot i think.

Any type of riding strecthes the chain eventually..but wheelies are definately hard on it. Ideally your chain is supposed to be replaced every season.

One of my buddies lost a chain on the freeway one night..I heard that it just went whipping up about 50 feet into the night sky..

Unhappy Re: **any of u guys snaped a chain?**

Ya, thats a bitch. I was riding my 85 interceptor last season and gunned it in first. Fricken chain went through the engine case and broke the water pump aswell. All I got to show for it is literally a block long trail of oil and a souvenier chain. I feel ya pain.
