chain question

You are going to need to change the chain to go 4 up in the rear. I think you could go one down and two up in the rear and ussually keep the stock chain. When you go 4 up in the rear and one down you loose a lot of top end. I MEAN A LOT. You are going to have a top speed on an r6 of I would guess around 90-100. It will be fun to wheelie but not really to ride around b/c you are going to be in 6th gear all the time.
My advise to you.....
Replace the chain with a 520 width. You r stock is a 530. Buy the two sprockets front and rear 520 width and a 110 link x or o ring chain. Only gear it 1 down and two up unless you really just want to do wheelies. The 520 chain will knock a couple of pounds of rolling weight off and will help you get the wheelies up. Don't gear it so extreme. It doesn't always help. It can become very twichy on you . I would say learn the back brake control and go with a more conservative gearing.

it does come up very easy but for the slower speed wheelies i wanted to start next year without losing all of my topend.. since my bikes in the shop gettin a new frame i figured maybe get some new sprockets but i dont want to buy a new chain so i guess the max i could go is -1 +2

-1 +4 and keeping the stock shain is possible on my gsxr. I don't know about the R1 though. If its a little short you can always go -2 on the frunt with the +4, and that might even things out enough to be able to ceep the stock chain.
BTW don't beleave that BS about 90 to 100mph top speed with that gearing.
