I am in the same boat as you, still learning! i have a 94, 900rr with -1 +4 and have been able to scrape, I dont understand why people say that gearing is good for beginers, i feel like i want to go like +10 to make it easier?

you should bring the idle up to like 4000 and just pop it up hard and when you get past balance point close throtle and let the high idle and brake control help you scrape,

here is a pic of one i hit straight, but 2 scrapes later i hit crooked and went down, not sure if having a bar to learn was a good idea but i know i would have crushed my tail by now if i didnt have it.

I never tried with stock gears, but like I said i am still wondering if it would be easier with more gear like -1 +10 maybe i will try it, i could always go back.

I think a hand brake would be sweet also but i dont want to shell out that kind of cash

the taller the gear the choppier the throttle. smooth throttle is key.
