ques.on stuntin 900rr's

Is there a big variation between a 95 900rr and a 98or 99 . i have a chance to grab a 95 for sweet deal. before i drop the cake i wanted to talk to some 1 who has stunted one of these . i know dte and core 6 rocks these things, but i think they have the newer models like 98/99 . do the 98/99's have any advantage over the older 95 -97 style as far as brakes, motor /balance point . i have been told they are pretty much the same , but not by any one who stunts . i have been stunting an 98 r1 for a season and am getting good but its to twitchy on real slow stuff. I dont like it for **** . i want to make sure ill have a decent bike to work with, not against like the r1 . thanks. :YEAH

I have a 99 and a 96. I like them both the same. I cracked my block on the 99 motor because of my frame slider so I put a 96 motor in it and it runs like a champ. A little less power but I love it. That bike has been so good to me. I couldnt ask for a better bike. It does everything except it doesnt stay running on a bar like a fuel injected bike does. Other than that its flawless. Hope this helps

yeah most of them are. One thing you will need to buy though if you plan on stunting it is a stabilizer. 900RR's tank slap so easy. Its worth the money believe me.

they are the same, but you want a 96 or newer motor..the 93-95 motors seem to have a problem with locking up doing 12's are long high wheelies....the 96 and newers seem to correct this oil starve problem.

I could be wrong but , a few people have told me that the #three pickup tube for the oil is shrter than the rest resulting in motor damage while on twelve or long highway wheelies . they said adding an extra quart of oil in brings the level up to feed this short tube correcting this problem . any one else heard of this ???? i heard chauncy went through a few motors but it was just hear say ????

Well, i was on the recieving end of that problem. i'm still not sure whether i was THAT low on oil or not, but i screwed up my crank pretty good learning some slower wheelies.

my question is, will the 96 and later motor fit right into the older (93) frame, or do you need to do some custom work? Also, where would be the best place to go to look for a used motor?

thanks guys...

i love this place!

they all fit....no differences other than internal. there are very few differences between all 900rr's.

and going through 900rr motors isn't uncommon..**** happens, fix the bearings and go on.

i run about 1/2 quart over in my 929. most people run 1/2 to 1 quart over.

pre 96 had the oil pickup more toward the front of the pan thus more proned to starving the engine on long wheelies. 96 and up moved the pickup to the rear. they hold up better and have more *****. running too much oil is also bad cuz crankcase pressure increases..1/2 qt is fine.
