Clutching????

I'm trying to learn how to clutch because I don't like to power it up, and I figure, I'm going to have to learn eventually. So I'm tring ot in 2nd gear, about 40 mph. Heres the question. Should I keep at a steady rpm, pull in the clutch, rev it, then let it out? Or is the trick that you have to get on the gas so you pull in the clutch WHILE the bike is in a state of acceleration? I know it makes a difference when your using the on off on method. If you're just cruisin at 5k rpms and you let off and get back on it, most of the time it won't come up. But if you start from a stop, accelerate wot to 5k and do the same thing, it comes up easy. Help me out, because, I havn't had much luck so far.

YOu jsut kinda roll on the throttle a little and just fan the clutch and gas it some more. Just keep trying you'll figure it out. Also you'll have to find the sweet spot in the power band. Probably somewhere between 6-8K rpms.

Ok, when you say fan it, do you mean to bump it in and out more than once?

No, just use your index finger and pull it in and let it right back out. No pausing, just one quick motion.

So you don't hold the clutch in while the bike revs up? I here people say "I rev it to 10k and dump it"

No, it's more like you just slip it for a half second.

i've been riding since May (first motorbikes ever).. had a '90 600F for a month and got my 900rr.... i started getting them in second by shifting after i could power it through first no problem (i could never ride a wheelie on the 6 until i practiced on my 9 for a while). i have had usual drops and my bike just got run over by a car, while i was jumping off the back . So my friends and I are getting a 50 and sprocketing out our bikes until we can balance in a parking lot going slow...
