newbie question about 900rr

posted this in the general section also, but want as much feedback as possible.

Hi everyone! This is my first post. I just acquired a 96 900rr. It has a full arrow exhaust system, jet kit, and is down 1 tooth in front.

This is my first 900 (most of my experience is on a 600). My question is at what rpms should the front wheel leave the ground on WOT in first gear? I've read that a stock 900rr starts to wheelie at about 8K. I've only had mine out a couple times so far, but it seems like it starts to lift off at about 7K. This seems kind of weak to me considering the mods. I know the carbs need to be synched. Will that make a difference?

Should it be coming up sooner or is it performing the way you experienced RR riders would expect?

Thanks for the help?

900's don't need W.O.T. ta bring the front tire off the ground, and as such i've never tried to bring up the front tire under W.O.T. so I dunno if that is the correct RPM or not.

zenbrudda, what do you mean? are you saying your '99 comes up on half throttle? or do you do the old open/close/open routine?

Thanks!

WOT = wide open throttle

in case you are struggling with other abbreviations, let me help you out a little, pwrmeister.

DOT = dept. of transportation
USMC = united states marine corps
NATO = north atlantic treaty organization
UN = United Nations
VP = vice president

I'm sure that answers some questions you've had for a long time. No need to thank me for improving your quality of life.

what i'm trying to determine is whether the bike is performing properly or if it's down on power. the goal isn't the wheelies. I do most of my wheelies on my zx6r.

After riding a 600 for so long, I expected the RR to be snappier than it is; and I'm trying to determine if the bike is running right.

most important thing stop looking at the gauges u dont need them...u need to get a feel for the bike and go from there....any type of wheelie that ur at a decent speed...all u need to do is just shut off the throttle then snap it back on right quick and give it a little tug......that thing will come up at at 30 in 2nd without any clutch action...for slower **** its like any other bike....rev that bitch up and dump the clutch....just make sure and guard the rear brake its ur friend

My 97 was the same way, but to be truthful, its all in the technique you use. And you prolly wouldn't wanna attempt a wheelie at WOT anyway, but if you just lean on it and open it up it will come up somewhere between 7 and 9k, with your mods.

the sooner you ge the hang of clutching wheelies up the better off you will be.its a little sketchy at first but by using throttle only,you accelerate too much.good luck.
