dual caliper Question

Why are they made from aluminum and not metals? I have a few ideas but whats the real reason and has anyone ever made or used a metal one

Re: dual caliper Question

Some are steel.... Mostly because of weight I believe. Alot of guys are cnc machinists so they use their skills there to fab them up and the require no welds.

Re: dual caliper Question

Weight, maybe cost of materials, don't really know. But nobody has any problems with the aluminum ones at all

Re: dual caliper Question

I don't really see a big difference in performance. The friction might be different but I doubt it's that much that they wouldn't use steel. I'd say it's probably just for the weight factor.

Re: dual caliper Question

its easier to cut through a 1in aluminum then it is to cut through a 1in steel plate,so its more cost effective to go aluminum while at the same time its strong enough. also stands strong against rusting after a good polish
