go fast grab the front brake...lol

seriously though the way i learned was to go about 40 and slow down as fast as i could till i started to feel the wheel lift , a good grippy tire like a pilot power helps ..

in addition to what omr said, dont go in with a bike that you are going to be super pissed about flipping. **** happens. as one person here said, stoppies are a lot more risky than wheelies. in a wheelie, you can get on the rear brake if you go past balance point. on a stoppie, all you have is your body position. outside of that, you have nothing to stop you from going over.

i have seen mystery oil work on a stuck lifter in an old chevy , worth a try i guess..!!

slightly lean forward and pull the front brake lever in until your back wheel starts rising of the ground.
and a small light motorcycle may be easier to learn on for the starter rather than starting off on a big heavy motorcycle..!!
