Re: Help getting the front sprocket off 636
You can use an impact gun not the best way but it works, also dont forget about the tabs on the nut lock.....you can get a tool looks like a pair of vise grips with nubs on them to hold the sprocket thats your best bet there like 40 bucks but there way cheaper then splitting the case's......alot of people like to hold the brakes with the chain still on and in gear but thats not to bright....the force is gonna other place than that sprocket nut like your counter shaft and tranny .......blue lock tite also dont use red

Re: Help getting the front sprocket off 636
if it was a stunt bike the nut might be tight as **** from clutching it up it just take alot of force. i had to use an impact gun and hit it for almost 10 min to get it off. might not be the best way but it worked

Re: Help getting the front sprocket off 636
The best and correct way is loosen it to the left with an impact gun.I used a weak *** "harbor freight" electric impact... it Should loosen up easy,I never had a problem,And never used a block o wood or jammed anything in the sprocket, just put er in 1st gear and pull the trigger, then reinstall with the impact.

Re: Help getting the front sprocket off 636
I always have an assistant sit on it holding rear brake an or shovel handle or other wood item in the wheel locking it up with trans in neutral (plus I wrap a towel around item in wheel as to not scratch or dent it. but they always come off fairly ez. Can try squirting it with liquid wrench/penetrating oil an let it sit 10-30 mins. I would NOT recomend using a torch to heat it.

Re: Help getting the front sprocket off 636
i have had a few that were so tight i had to use a 3/4 impact gun to get them off..
i like to put the bike in gear and hold the brake then hit it with the impact gun ..
it is not reverse thread so like a few already said lefty loosey ..
the lock washer people were talking about is a splined washer that is behind the nut you are trying to get off but the splined washer has tabs that fold over the nut to keep it from backing off on it's own so you need to bend the tabs of the splined washer back to get the nut off ..
