Re: F$I Smashed tank problem
you could try and get a bigger gasket... or let the one from vortex sit in tranny fluid to allow it to swell... i had that problem on my Gixxer when i dent the tank... but if you know anyone with a evap machine you can plug the tank and smoke it to see exactly where it leaks and slowly try different things not to much you can do now thou... so give those suggestions a try

Re: F$I Smashed tank problem
is it coming from out of the actual gas cap or the tank??? if its from the tank you should get it welded...and i think there should be an o-ring around the gas cap to keep it from leaking check if thats on there if not thats probably your issue

Re: F$I Smashed tank problem
If the cap cracked while denting it, then you were probably denting it 'crooked'
the while point in the cap is to help keep the filler hole straight and not get bent up, but if your filler hole cracked, I can only imagine it was tweaked in there

Re: F$I Smashed tank problem
i had a leak and for a while thought it was the rubber gasket, so i added a gasket. turns out it was the tank that was leaking where the filler hole meets the tank. seal-all fixed it .

Re: F$I Smashed tank problem
i've never heard of seal-all but i'm sure it just like RTV ultra black or ultra silver you could probably seal it will that if its leaking around the cap your gonna end up using alot probably so just make sure you dont block off the vent

TTT... when you put the new gs cap on does it sit flush before you tighten the bolts ?? if not you might need to grind one side to make it flush when get some thing gas wont disolve ie. rubber roofing some sort of liquid gasket if u use a liquid or epoxy type test it in a bucket w/ gas in it for a day or 2 see if it breaks down first good luck if you have an air compressor afro engineer up somethin to pressureize(ha cant spell) the tank. remove fuel pump and do it from there. then put really soapy water around the gas lid and watch fo the bubble`z

Re: F$I Smashed tank problem
you can grind the post down on the under side of the cap a little and itll seat the gasket closer to the fill hole.
careful not to go to far or youll screw right into your gas tank.

had nothing to do with arguement.. hahaha.. and theres no misleading involved, im clearly saying i have both my cap and pump rvt'd in and not a single leak in 2 years....

Re: F$I Smashed tank problem
I had to deal with a similar problem with my tank....It ended up not even being the seal at all. My cap had what I guess is called a (breather hole) anyway there was a gap between the cap and the base which was allowing gas to leak inside the cap then out and around the base and all over my tank (making it seem as though the leak was between the base and the tank instead of the base and cap).....for the longest time I thought it was my gasket...I had tried filling it with all kinds of RTV and other gasket makers and all that **** did was break down and make a mess. I eventually figured it out and sealed the hole with some high end gas&oil resistant sealer and it solved the problem and never leaked a drop. My advice would be to pull the tank off and plug your lines then experiment with the cap and see if you can discover the source of the problem...
