Re: 520 chain break who runs em?
ive had 520's on almost every bike ive ever owned and only time i ever had a clip break was because i reused it twice lol. so moral of the story is if you take your chain off dont be cheap and buy a new clip master.

what ever chain you run just remember to change the master clip once every year. Let mine go for 4 years and it broke on me in a seat stander. 50cent part ended up putting a hole in my motor!

definitely ALWAYS replace the master link when you remove it. I've never taken one off just to replace it, but if I have a reason to remove my chain, I put a NEW link on!
I use clip style links. But I also still run 525 (still on stock front sprocket, no reason to change my chain size)
I even run a cheap KMC chain from ebay, oversized to fit my 60t sprocket, was $68 shipped for a 525 o-ring 120link chain! Been running it 10k and it still looks new!
Only master link I've ever broke, was one I reused. I reused it twice, then when I was 100 miles from home on a 140 mile 1 way trip, the master link started coming out. Luckly I heard it as I was leaving a gas station, and pulled over and saw it. Got trucked the rest of the way

i always go with 525 or 530. i dont see the need for a 520 unless you are racing. unsprung rotating schmotating mass doesnt matter to me. i like durability. with a 520 the chain is thiner, lighter, and weaker. same goes for the sprockets. i have busted teeth on sprockets and i have friends who have as well. and u cant go wrong with the rivet link. no chance of the clip coming off.

I like 520 chains.. To me bigger = Stronger = better..
But.. I recommend anyone that doesnt Rivet there chain master link to put a cpl Paper clips in there " Tool Bag" under there seat.. Just my $.02 -
After co-running a Motoryccle shop and talking w/ customers and hearing alot of storys.. I would deffinitly want a paper clip if my clip ever broke
( you can rig a clip out of a paper clip- duh)
Might sound stupid but.. You tell me when your looking for your chain & master clip on the side of the road.

Just snapped mine last week but it was my own fault, i changed my back sprocket from a 60 to a 49 and i had to rejoin my chain with one of these new soft rivet links instead of a split link, anyway i didnt tighten up the chain enough and it snapped at the rivet link after about 30 mins riding. Need to get a new chain now, im not gona put the old one back on.

i run a 520 on pretty much all my bikes. and i use the clip on master, but i replace it "just in case" when ever its removed. my buddy runs 520 with clip on master, but he always puts a little jb weld over the clip part on the master (since he had one pop off, even though i just think it wasnt snaped in all the way).
