Re: BMW F800 Stunt Projekt, WHAT YA THINK???
I got a show this weekend (on the GS500...) At a superbike national event.... and with all this easter stuff the bike will be freezed a couple days.... heres the progression to the moment...
Chain slider rough aproach... made from UHMV Plastic (ultra high molecular weight)
A few minutes later...
I had to grind down some strange nothes that were protruding over the swingarm to allow the slider to seat correctly
Fitted in... Looks nice, sober and functional.
The complete build...waiting for Teach package number 1 (Still at the local customs) And Teachs Package number 2... (At Teachs house, already taped and ready for shipping :D)
Handbrake setup still to be sovled...either getting DOT resistand seals or...swapping the rear brake fluid for something else....like mineral oil or something...what yo uguys think? anyone did this before?

Re: BMW F800 Stunt Projekt, WHAT YA THINK???
I'm sorry, I just finished picking my jaw back up off the ground.
What about using DOT 5? It is silicone based verses glycol based. One problem with mineral oil is going to be the o-rings in your foot master and calliper, are they compatible I'm betting they would not seal well because baby oil is a lower viscosity? Also if you use mineral oil it absorbs oxygen faster and has a lower boiling point than conventional glycol based fluid, so it might work, and it might fade out in the middle of a coaster. You would have to change fluid every time you rode or you could get brake fade quickly.
Just my thoughts, I may be wrong though.
Silicone DOT5 should work well with any rubber seal, just be sure and bleed it frequently to get collected water out.
EDIT: Don't get DOT 5.1

Re: BMW F800 Stunt Projekt, WHAT YA THINK???
Mineral oil boliling pont may be the problem... It will seal, im sure of that... Im also into biketrials... and we used everything for brakes... mineral oil, baby oil, distilled water, everything... Seals right the behaviour of the brake feel is managed by viscosity of the fluid.... and durability of the sistem depends on how corrosive or harmful to the seals and body the fluid is... (theres no temperature issues on trials bycicles...)

Re: BMW F800 Stunt Projekt, WHAT YA THINK???
lol
mineral oil = baby oil
I slipped up and said one and the other when I was just talking about the same thing. I meant that the seals in the foot master and the rear cylinder may be designed for a more viscous solutions and may allow some mineral oil by the seals after it heats and thins. May not damage the seals but it may get by them as well.
Yeah, I see boiling point being the main concern also. There may be other viscous fluids that you could use. I know silicone based DOT5 is the only thing designed for that purpose that will work with the current seals as long as you take the entire system apart and clean it before adding the DOT5. Silicone based fluids gel when any little bit mixes with DOT3-4 or mineral oil.

Re: BMW F800 Stunt Projekt, WHAT YA THINK???
Im going to try DOT5 silicone based i guess..... but taking the sistem apart isnt an option...anyone know a way to clean the sistem without taking it apart completely??? I am willing to take the calipers off... and also the masters.... but that ABS thing stuck in the middle of the frame .....i aint touching that!!!

Re: BMW F800 Stunt Projekt, WHAT YA THINK???
ABS! Don't use DOT5 unless you disable the ABS... ABS and DOT5 are not cool together.
OMG, just looked at the system:
Those BMWs are too much!

Re: BMW F800 Stunt Projekt, WHAT YA THINK???
The ABS system is disabled on my biek since day one.....
I already researched that aspect of the DOT5 usage.... the problem with ABS sistems and DOT5 is related to brake depowering calibration.... The ABS system usually comes calibrated to work with DOT4 fluid properties....if you use DOT5... the parameters of viscosity. density, etc wont be the same and the ABS will act stragely....
Thats all...otherwise its the same...
Can you guys please list me some vehicles coming stock from factory with DOT5 fluid??? im having trouble getting it over here... This country sucks for this kinda stuff!!!

Re: BMW F800 Stunt Projekt, WHAT YA THINK???
I may be wrong but I don't think any vehicles come stock with DOT5.
Man why are they so harsh in Argentina?
Same company different products for you guys vs us:

I feel spoiled, I can walk down the street and get parts you can't even find in your country. If you ordered from eBay what would happen to your package?

Its hard to find strange stuff here... Its al about soya, corn, and cows over here :D
Ill make a few phonecalls tomorrow... Im decided to goo DOT5

Re: BMW F800 Stunt Projekt, WHAT YA THINK???
When ever you get it be sure to get a lot of it. It is one product that does better when sitting still for a lot time before you use it. Also, depending on the age of the seals in your system they may periodically leak water and DOT4 back into the system so it may take a while to get the system ironed out, but once you do it should be sick. The longer it sits still and the less bubbles you introduce when pouring it into your reservoir the less "spongy" it will feel when you use it. Silicone is known to "give" a bit more than glycol based fluids but still deliver the pressure needed.
I have gone nuts trying to find anything for you, even silicone substitutes. I also read up on Mineral Oil as a vehicle brake fluid. It seems typical but I noticed the same warnings about using it in a glycol system as using glycol in a mineral oil based system as far as the seals go.
Silicone is the only one I have seen that will work with your mismatch of seals, was really hoping to find another alternative for you that is a local fix. I want to see the bike up and running.
Hope your phone calls go well.

Re: BMW F800 Stunt Projekt, WHAT YA THINK???
The build is looking sweet !!
Thats Toddys bike early in this thread he comes from the uk,
Just one little thing ya need to do, ya need to put a bolt above the foot brake lever so it cant come up to high. When ya come off if ya catch the lever on the ground etc its rips the piston out of the cylinder because the circlip is very weak and not recessed in very deep. Toddy has had this happen a couple of times. When we looked at cp,s bike he hd done this bolt conversion it works great, we have done both of toddys bikes now.
Hope ya dont mind me saying.
Keep up the good work

Re: BMW F800 Stunt Projekt, WHAT YA THINK???
Waiting for that brake pedal pics to figure it out....
Meanwhile....Teachs Package number 2 already in my country, i hope the guys at the custom doesnt turn my happy ending into a pain in the a$$
Everything else is fine... i got the brake problem mentally solved, by making a new piston to fit some Viton orings on it... hope it works...
