Doesnt matter what your gearing is you just need to be at the balance point and you can go as far as you want. I have 1 down 7 up in the rear and i love it. Also had 1 down 4 up just depends on what you want to run. Are you running stock gearing know?

I'm running 2 down 8 up and would still like to go up more in the back. If you are gonna go slow you gotta go low. My top speed is still 150. As far as on the tank stuff I do third gear on the highway no problem, parking lots 1st or 2nd. You can go down2 and up 3 and still use the stock chain. More than that and u gotta get a new one.
