When doing the idle mod do you just find any old screw that is longer with the right thread pattern or do I need to get one from a 929 or 954 RR?

Correct. F2,F3,F4,F4i,900RR,929RR,954RR,600RR will all work

 

I'm not completely sure about the 600rr


but for f4i's, you CAN'T use a idle cable from a fuel injected bike, or you MUST cut the threads, risking damaging them...
If you think you might mess up the threads, just get an idle cable from a carbed bike (900rr, f2/f3, f4) Plus the carbed bikes typically run $10-$12 for a cable, FI bikes run around $17-$22

 

Picked up a 954 cable NIB for 12 bucks. The stocker I returned was 27.
