the pivot bolt is in, the damage looks to be above it where the bigger hole is. there isnt anything in the bigger hole. the top bolt is tight so I cant figure out what is causing the whole tank to move. it can be pushed sown easily on both sides about 3/4 of an inch.

thanks man.
not concerned about difficulty, more concerned about availability and cost.

Re: Stunt Bike: 06 CBR600RR vs. 00 GSXR750?

I'm gonna go look at both bikes again today.
Anyone got any other suggestions on which would be the better buy?
06 CBR600RR or 03 Ninja 636?
I personally like both bike. I love 636's had an 06. and the CBR has always been one of my favorite bikes but have never gotten to ride one.
So either way I'll be happy with my purchase. What do you guys think?

the rr may be the better buy if theres nothing serious wrong with it but i think the 636 is the better bike and much better stunt bike. unless you plan on flipping the rr id just get the 636.

kawi..the wobbling tank is prob the bolts in the front that hold the tab on that attaches to the frame...lift the tank from the front and 2 10mm bolts are under there...almost guarentee they are loose

I think they may be broken. when I went to look at the bike, there was the doublesided 3m tape holding one side of the gas tank down to the frame. i don't wanna lift his tank up to see, but **** it right? why not.
Thanks for the input guys, I've seen a bunch of peeps stunting RR's also. So that was why I was still planning on getting one. But since this bike will be purely for stunting it is sounding like the 636 may be a better bike.

has he even lifted the tank to check? unless the tank was hit extremely hard in a wreck i doubt anything is broken.

I doubt it, it was the kids 1st bike, he bought it after it went down, said he did a bunch of maintenance, but from his lack of info on the bike, i'm guessing he just took it to a bike shop and paid a mechanic to work on it. I'll bring a set of allens when I go look at it and lift the tank. where are the bolt I'm looking for located on the 03?

you cant miss em when you lift the tank. theyre the pivot point when you tilt the tank back.

id almost be hesitant to lift the tank and check b4 you buy due to how likely thats all it is and then him possibly backing out of the deal to fix it and resell it for more money.

the one under the seat?
If its that one I already checked it. looks in there. but I can check it again. is it just the pivot bolt and the bolt at the top of the tank that hold the tank in place?

Re: Stunt Bike: 06 CBR600RR vs. 00 GSXR750?

btw, here is the original add for the CBR. (the handbrake is no longer on the bike)
http://boiseriders.net/fs-motorcycle...html#post42603

and here is the CL posting for the 636.
http://boise.craigslist.org/mcy/1304045224.html

but I got them both down to $3000. so its a battle of the better bike now...

yes. you can see it without actually lifting the tank. if the bolt is loose the tank will wobble and may ben the tabs so i would think at worst, all youd have to do is bend them back. if its stripped you can just put another bolt and lock nut in there.

Re: Stunt Bike: 06 CBR600RR vs. 00 GSXR750?

so just got back from looking at the CBR, bike pulls strong, but has some problems for sure.
The ticking noise is pretty noticable, cant pin point what it is though. the bike is burning oil, can smell it, and white smoke out the exhaust. The headlight is not working and it needs new rearsets. any cbr riders know how much maintenance will be needed to get the bike from burning oil and fix the ticking noise? gonna check out the 636 tomorrow.

Re: Stunt Bike: 06 CBR600RR vs. 00 GSXR750?

well if the guy has stunted it, he may have flipped the bike or laid it down while runnin....which causes it to pump oil into the airbox (see kleen air mod) which causes it to smoke

hard to say with out seeing it. it could be ready to blow. it could need an oil change. i know most RR's are louder bikes (ticking, clicking, tapping)

good luck

from how it looks it had to have taken a bad spill. the subframe looks to have replaced. it has a scorpion slip on that is dented on both top and bottom so it looks like the bike was looped pretty good. broke the rearsets, casecovers are scratched. I think I may get the 636. just gotta see if the guy will do the $3k cash and I think its a deal.
