I use alpine stars Super Techs, pretty limited mobility at first, but then they get broken in and work great... but i gotta be honest, i only wear them when im going on a long ride, if im just around town or messing around, i wear my adidas... shame on me...

Guys (girls) -- big no-no on the steel toe.
Steel has memory. When that steel gets crushed in onto your little piggies, it's not going to return to the shape it previously was. They're probably great for kicking car doors and ****.. but damn, I don't wanna lose my toes.
Riding boots are a lot different than work boots, too. The soles are thinner and the boot is designed to move in a way for foot use that a work boot is not.
I have Teknic lightning boots and the only problem with them is that they, like any other riding boot, suck for walking around. Your feet will hurt and they just aren't all that comfortable. If I plan on doing walking and I'm wearing my boots, I toss my sneakers in a backpack.

I wear my boots whenever I ride... they look ghetto alone but pretty straight w/ jeans on
I think they may have saved my foot last night though- I was riding a standup on my fiddy that started to go sideways... I figured I'd just ride a circle. Well, she got too low and slid out onto my damn foot! I can barely walk today and my heel is swollen as hell.... but I think if i were riding in my sandals (like i usually do on my fiddy) that my foot would be way worse???

boots may be expensive or ugly but when they save your foot you will love them. I ride alpinstar but they do suck for walking. The uncomfort walking is worth it to have good ankles. DCs when I'm not stunting.

Real riding boots (Alpine Stars, Sidi, etc.) are a really good idea. Sneakers will usually just fall off in a wreck leaving you with a sock to protect your foot from the asphalt.... not good. The other consideration is that in the case that the sneakers stay on, the rubbers soles on them can grip the pavement and twist or break your ankles. Riding boots are designed to slide so that problem can be avoided. If there was ever a reason why I would recommend wearing riding boots it's this
Now don't tell me you wouldn't spend $150 for a good pair of boots to avoid that happening to your foot.
