Denting the gas tank for seated tricks

What's the best way to dent the tank for seated stunts - jumping on the tank vs hammering or cutting out and welding?

Re: Denting the gas tank for seated tricks

I used a 2lb dead blow hammer, started around the fill cap and worked my way out and mine works well.

that's funny, I did the first tank I ever dented like that. I sledge hammer and a 2x4 on the fillcap and bang. a gallon of bondo later and it looked smooth I found that small taps from the center out is MUCH more effective. jumping on it worked good once too but I ended up getting kinks in the metal that wouldn't come out and had to be blended with fiberglass bondo. if you cut and weld and get a relocated cat cap you let me know I want one bill d style that **** is pimp!

here are a few I have done. none are any good but they worked

use a big hammer for the first 3 to 5 hits with a phone book on the tank. also start in the middle. i like to start on the gas filler. make sure u tap out any creases as they start so they dont get worse. try to keep it even all the way around. after u are done with the phone book, use a large rubber mallet and just take ur time if u want it to look good

hey mna,,, let me know if you really want to come down and when,
and actually it was my 3rd day riding a streetbike, i came down from a seatstander and not used to how wide the tank was, my knees came down and made 2 egg shaped dents in the tank, (hince the line down the middle) so I just took the mallet to it and worked them out, with grip tape its holds well, but im getting a new one and doing a 'top' dent, since the knees made the dent I was kinda stuck....and no, I would not like that responsibility, I know a shop down here that can do a good one for you though.
