4 piston maintenance

I'm not sure if anyone else has had to deal with this, but I just got a dual 4 piston caliper bracket from full throttle inc. Running new pre-machined honda pads connected to a brembo 16x18. Out of the box the power was incredible, but after a couple weeks of riding, the high idle I am running is overpowering it and the handbrake power feels like the single caliper I used to run. Glazed brakes? I cleaned the rotor with brake clean, sandpapered it and the pads and took it out the next day, there was a big improvement but I still had to turn the idle down a bit, anybody have any similar issues? I need my amazing handbrake power back!

Re: 4 piston maintenance

Stop riding the brake and learn some throttle control and you won't glaze your pads.

Re: 4 piston maintenance

maybe you wore the rotor out..since theres so much braking power now..then again it should not be that bad?..i run ceramic carbon pads..they are the ****!!

Re: 4 piston maintenance

I'm gonna do a bit of test and tune with the rotor and pads here. I'm really hard on the brake cuz I do a lot of fast into slow and fast into stall tricks. The 4 piston fits my riding style perfectly. I think the pads might be dragging though which would definately create a problem.

Re: 4 piston maintenance

It's a lot of pad for a small rotor, so I imagine the would be some super fast heat build up. Def makes you adjust to a different style

Re: 4 piston maintenance

I am having the SAME issue! it drives me nuts!!!!! Bout to do the big rotor kit so there should be less heat. Gonna take the caliper apart and polish the pistons and replace the seals too

+1. I've only had a problem when I bled my brake a bit to get some fresh fluid in the line and got fluid on the pads. Sand down a sec and a couple sessions later it's pretty mint. Haven't had a problem since.

Re: 4 piston maintenance

My lever stays nice the whole time i'm riding but about 1 hour into riding its like the pads loose bite I have to pull harder on the lever to get the same braking force.

I just put a different rotor on with oem Honda pads and the same thing

not trying to bust your chops just throwing advice, have you cleaned the actual pistons out in the caliper to free up some slack maybe

stock pads with a fresh stock rotor and Motul RBF600 fluid... never seen fade nor loss of braking force

Re: 4 piston maintenance

i have to run dot 5 for the rears, otherwise i will have no brake from the 16x18..

also, i had to stand the bike straight up, hook a vaccum line to get the bottom caliper fed with fluid for the foot brake, but it doesn't feel as stiff as others i rode (alot of play) i adjusted the nut as far as it would go..is anyone using another foot pedal master to overcome this? the foot brake does work but u must mash on it a bit then it grabs like no other....using the foot pedal in this current condition would be wrecklace for sit down or staggered coasters..

I can see it now... cooling fans on the rear brake rotor are gonna be the wave of the future
