My review of DCP radiator cages

My review of DCP radiator cages
First off I'll put out there that Im just a squid who enjoys doing wheelies - no sponsorships coz Im a squid and frankly even if I get to non squid level, I'm not looking for any sponsorships or to go anywhere with wheelies. I make wheelies coz they're fun and I get to kick it with my homies who all love doing the same thing. On to the review.
In terms of shipping, this company (with regards to my order anyway) is up on the level of OMR, ESD, FTI & SI just to name a few. I havent ordered anything from SI lately but I know with the first 3 mentioned when I place my order I'll have product within the next few days. Anywho, I placed my order late Friday night (so I consider that Saturday) and within an hour I received email confirmation that my order was received and being processed. The order was shipped out on Monday and I was supplied with a tracking number for my UPS delivery. 2 days later my radiator cage arrived and just like any other orders placed, I was excited at new shiny parts being delivered to my door steps
Opening the package I realized just how gang star these cages were. So I went to work and put it on my bike. There were no instructions which really isnt a big deal since its a simple install but I was confused by one thing and sent an email. I received a reply within an hour with directions and a phone number if I had questions so I called Jay (the fabricator). Upon speaking to Jay directly he advised me that the grommet on the left side of the radiator (or right side if youre in front of the bike) needed to be cut in half and to leave the grommet on the outside in place. Not a big deal and took all of 2 seconds to cut. That was it - cage installed and my radiator does not budge whatsoever.
One drawback which really isn't that big of a deal is that if you have no top mounting tabs on your radiator there is nothing holding the top of the radiator in place so it does have some wiggle room and would IMO be clanking back and forth when popping and setting down your wheelies. I know that there was room for it to wiggle because the radiator I had on my bike had no top mounting tabs but had a bottom mounting tab. I spoke to people on this site who said that they ran the big zippy ties around the radiator holding it to the cage, rather than the frame like most stunters do and that fixed the problem and their radiators were not budging at all. I didn't want to do this because one of the points of a radiator cage was to have a clean look. Luckily I had a spare minty radiator and took the 10 minutes to swap it. But if your radiator has no top mounting tabs and only the bottom, this cage would still be better than the big zip ties IMO.
So to sum up this long post, good product whether you have mounting tabs or not and I truly believe that I will NEVER need another radiator again on this bike. I will keep one spare but I can now get rid of the 2 other beat up spares that I have
I didn't take pictures of it on my bike yet but will do so if anyone wants to see. But you can check out their website and see exactly what I'm talking about. Anyway, signing out.

Re: My review of DCP radiator cages
Oh and with regards to the no top mounting tabs, maybe Jay can chime in on alternatives to keep it steady in place. I dont really see how else you could keep it in place besides big zippy ties but who knows? Good product nonetheless.

Re: My review of DCP radiator cages
I too got mine super quick shipping. got it put on friday afternoon and went to play that night. luckily i too had a minty fresh new radiator to put on with it. the cage is great and the radiator doesnt budge one bit. the only problem i found is that im running the inverted forks so the fork hits the cage just a little bit when you turn the wheel all the way left or right which hardly ever happens. but great product thanks guys

Re: My review of DCP radiator cages
I put mine on over the weekend. I had to do a couple mods because my rad has been braced with cross memebers but it didn't take long to install. Def a well thought out and well designed product. Trial run with it will be this afternoon if the rain lets up. I can't wait.

Anyway. It's about time someone finally came up with permanent solution for this. I think it was the last thing the 636's needed

Re: My review of DCP radiator cages
That's an awesome product. A year ago I had to build one for my shitbox 900rr because my top radiator mounts were ripped clean off and the radiator started to look like it was frowning after 6yrs of riding it. Would have much rather picked up an off the shelf solution like this instead of taking the time away from the other things I do to fool with it. Glad to see someone stepped up and got them done.

Re: My review of DCP radiator cages
neal let me help here,
its the bomb makes the radiator solid. installation is easy, yup its tight cuz your working by the headers but even kelm could do this. ive also rode with it already of course my skills are not like others the cage stood its ground. i recommend if your out there and refining your skills you might want to add this to your list of must haves if not im sure you will be investing in another radiator eventually.. for the price and durability you cant go wrong as well as the customer service.
gotta give it to the crew at DCP for developing an awesome product.
