Re: Help on chopping my Exhaust...

The 03' 636 I just got came with a shorty as did my first 636, I noticed no diff. from the other (2) 636' I've owned with uncut pipes.
I'd leave in 1 baffle and just pack it with as much packing as you can and I think it will sound good and still have plenty of back pressure.
My buddy ran his w/o a pipe and had no low/mid range obviously. I took his old Micron he had in the trash, cut it, rivoted it, repacked with old packin, painted it, then we bolted it up w/o the mid-pipe and he said it ran good. Only reason I say good, is because where the pipe and header connected there is a fat exhaust leak there. Due to the tip of pipe being a bit hacked up cause he tryed to modify it before. All we need to do it get some header wrap and seal the leak and it'll be golden.

Process I did was this.
1. drill out rivots (I didn't have to since it was all apart anyway)
2. cut pipe (Best way do do this to get a straight cut all the way around, is to tape the pipe where you are going to cut.)
3. cut the inside baffle (this was a pain since I didn't have a cut off wheel)
4. wrap the packing and stuff the packing around the baffle the best way you can, the more packed the better.
5 join together and rivot.

I don't know if all the exhaust are simliar inside but this is what i did, I've never done this before so I just went at it, it sounds good too.
Best part is it didn't cost him anything.

What I started with:

After: ( as you can see the end that meet the header is all sorts of jacked up )

After paint (cool vanilla)
