Re: paint help

Dont let it sit in the sun untill you are ready to let it dry all the way. The heat mess' with krylon. I has the same problem on my upper. Wet sand it with some relativly high grit paper and spray it again and it should be fine

Re: paint help

AS long as your not grabbing it with dirty hands you dont really need to degrease but should clean it with a tack cloth as he said

Re: paint help

What they said, also make sure it's the same brand. If you use Krylon, use Krylon for everything. Don't mix it up, from primer to clear... use all Krylon.

Re: paint help

Stay away from that krylon **** it sucks. Go get urethane based dupli color automotive paint. It may take more work than the krylon but it last longer and looks better if prepped properly.

1.Sand the fairing with 360 grit.

2. primer it (Use the same brand dupli color sandable primer) Put 2 coats of primer on then wet sand the primer with 600 grit. Get it real smooth Then use prep all on the surface to get rid of the grease and sanding residue. Also use tack rag to get any fibers off the primer.

3. use what ever color use want ( dont mix brands use dupli color as well for the base coat) put down 3 coats using a tack rag in between coats to keep it clean. make sure you follow the flash times. Yes spray paint has flash times. If you wait to long and spray it it will lift on you ( that cracking you saw was lifting or shriveling).

4. Use dupli color automotive clear out of a spray can. Clear out of a rattle can is very thin so your first 3 coats lightly spray it on. Your last three lay it on good and thick.

If you do all that properly you will have a good strong finish. gas wont eat it up it should last a long time.

You can it from advance auto parts.

Primer

base and clear

Re: paint help

Good post Hyp, I agree... Krylon is ****. I just didn't feel like typing all of that. I did a friends 929 in all white, after it was all said and done it was so god damn shiney and nice it looked like a shop did it. And it held up great, even after he wrecked his bike... most spray paints chip and crack off but this stuff didn't.

Re: paint help

LOL Get real paint from an automotive paint store... PPG Dupont Sherwin is even OK.... Rattle can stuff sucks! But I guess it depends on how long you want it to last and look good! and how much $ your willing to throw at it!

Re: paint help

The stuff hyper rider talked about is good...but where im at i payed 7 bucks a can the first time and it just got fucked up so i went for krylon and it was decent.

I still say if your on a budget do krylon. Its cheap, easy, fast drying, looks good, and last awhile. If your like me i paint my bike every few months cause i like it looking good

Re: paint help

I used Duplicolor and a clear coat that is made for car rims and got results that I'm happy with, especially since I see no reason in spending big money on a stunt piece unless you get great deals. You have to clear it though!!!!!

It took me 2 hours start to finish and I didn't have to take my bike apart.

Re: paint help

Important step for priming: guid coat. once it is dry spray a thin "mist" not complete coat just enough to see through and wet sand with at least 120 grit until the guid starts coming off. If their is a black spot it is a low spot and needs sanded out. If it is too deep or their are too many it will def. need another coat of primer. And the dont mix brands of paint only applies to rattle cans. if you do it right it is ok. Painting is alot of work but it brings in good money.
