Re: Thoughts on a SV1000
I was just playing. I dont plan on hitting lots anytime soon. I dont have the time to put into it. Just the occasional street ride.

Oh, the "will this bike take a beating" question made me assume your gonna be hitting the lots... My bad.. Then yeah, Just a cage should be fine.... I have no clue about the oil starvation ?..... Big Ben would know though..

Re: Thoughts on a SV1000
I had a brand new '99 SV-650 back when I first started riding and it definitly had oil starvation issues. The motor locked up on me and it had to be rebuilt-it was an expensive problem, one that was solved by getting rid of it quickly. You might want to do some more research on the newer models-they may or may not have the same problem. I could imagine how parking lot stunts would reak havok on that poor V-twin.

Re: Thoughts on a SV1000
tiler, ive had my sv since last august with no oil issues.....overfil the oil 1/2 qt and change it frequently as well as a new oil filter frequently.....the trick is after a long stunt session go ride on two wheels for a while whiile varing your rpm to sort of get the oil everywhere again.....ive never had any issues.....ride carefully.... dont redline coasters or anything crazy like that........no superlong highway wheelies and youll b fine......

Re: Thoughts on a SV1000
i have always heard they have major oil issues. if you think about it, once you are up around ten or eleven o clock the back cylinder is upside down. that cant be good.

Re: Thoughts on a SV1000
i had a 03 sv 650 and i went through 2 motors and had to rebuild one once (lower rod bearings got toasted). probably just bad luck but each motor broke a rod and sent it through the case. i'll never go with a sv ever again.
