i thought i saw a thread about it. i know people have said when filling, submerge the whole thing in the oil and pump it while it's in the oil. never done it but that's what i've heard

Re: Oil change Ohlins rod style steering damper?
btw fork oil and motor oil is rated differently, a 10wt fork oil is equivalent to say a 25wt or so motor oil
Also is this a factory equipped damper? Or a real deal $400+ ohlins damper?
If it's a factory equipped damper, that's why you are getting head shake, they are low end models for production.. The real deal is a lot better

I used 20wt fork oil. It IS the allen bolt on the left and you do have to submerge the whole thing. Pump the old oil out and then submerge. hold it so the bolt hole faces up and go to town. The bubbles can be sooo small that it looks like old oil or a dirt trail rising to the surface... but its air.

I think people use regular oil, but I'm not positive
