one of my best friends went to MMI in FL, and he's now delivering beer. he said you really need to go where people ride all yr long, and even at that its pretty poor money. up north (IN) he looked and applied for work everywhere and got nothin... and this was 3-4 yrs ago. I dont think he owes much though, i dont think it was too much money.

Amen to NOT voting for "change", might make more money NOT working...

If you really want to do it start working on your own ****, buy cheap project bikes, fix them, and sell them. I do it for practice and fun on the side. Eventually you can start working on other people's **** out of your garage and start a shop of your own.

The best shop in my area is ran by a guy that has no formal training and I beleive he got a GED years ago. He's even got a waiting list during the winter.

Don't give up on your dreams just don't expect to go to MMI and get one of those once in a lifetime high paying jobs like a few of the lucky bastards. You don't have to do things the conventional way, sometimes you gotta find your own way.

Obama sure can talk a long time and say absolutely nothing. He's a talented bullshitter. The only change I've seen since he scamed his way into office rides in the cupholder of my truck.

I've got a couple of friends going to UTI and they love it. They think they're gonna be master auto body technicians right out of school lmao. One of them has been there for a year now and it still takes him 3 hours to change the oil in his car...literally.

There are people who graduate and end up doing really well for themselves. But its very slim. I know a kid that went to Wyotech and know he people fly him all over the world to get them to tune their cars. He broke the worlds fastest pumpgas 4-cylinder car record in a car he drove to the track..... but he knew more than the instructors goin in and he just did it to get his Pro-tuner certifications..... for every person that does well... their is 238523 guys workin at Jiffy Lube.

well its not like i can just jump on a bike and go with absolutely no knowledge of ****.

but at any rate. its only like a year and a half worth of schooling, 36 weeks in the classroom and then another 36 weeks in the shop (its a second 36 weeks because im taking two electives , honda and either suzuki/kawasaki) Plus it will get me te **** out of indiana, give me a chance to experience some new ****, meet some new people, and learn how to properly work on a bike.
I dont have any connections to get me in a shop around here or i would. so for now im helpin my buddy with his bike (hasnt been started in 10 years until last summer, but its still a work in progress) and i just got a 77 honda cb750k yesterday, its only a frame, tank, seat, and handles, lol but ill have the engine in a couple weeks, and im gonna get it runnin before i go.

Thanks to everyone again for the advice and stories
it really is appreciated

Too bad you don't live in Southern Indiana. I might be able to help you get on at S&S Powersports at the parts counter for $8.25/hr. I've went riding with a couple guys there, they need people. MMI grads make the same working at the parts counter as I would if I took them up on the job. A pay cut to sling parts and work weekends aint worth it. I'd be pissed going to MMI and only making $8.25/hr.

Re: Where can i go to school for motorcycle technician? Pls help!!

I always thought that MMI was a bullshit course, until I applied for a job with Confederate motorcycles. Graduation from MMI or another motorcycle tech school is a pre-employment requirement.

I'm just finishing my BS in Mechanical Engineering, and now I've been thinking about MMI.

You can be done in less than a year........

I wouldn't mind the certifications on top of an engineeering degree. An MMI certification will land you a parts counter job. An engineering degree with an MMI certification will land you a bike engineer job.

Once i get back from MMI I'm going to take a motorsports fabrication course, after that i plan on opening my own shop.

If all else fails ill go apply at a dealership. But of course there are no guarantees.

Thanks again guys
