Metallic noise at 7Krmp 04 600RR

When ever I am passing or holding at 7k I hear what sounds like a metallic rattle. I have checked everything, had the shop check everything ect. It sounds like it's coming from somewhere up front, hard to tell. It's not engine noise or ping, I really think that something is loose, but can't find a dame thing that is. Even took out my busted bar end weights and it still does it. The uppers are cut down 4 inches and the bracket for the mirrors behind the windscreen has been removed and I have washers bolted on the front the replace the mirror mounts. These are tight so I am stumped, any thoughts?

Thanks

are you running a msr raptor or a moose easy pull? those bitches make a annoying rattling noise that'll make you think somthings loose? if so next time you ride it hold down on the lever and see if that changes anything. just a thought. good luck.

Yes actually, I have an MSR ez-pull clutch lever. Think I have tried that, but not sure. . .will give it when I get off work as well as put on the windscreen S brackets to rule that out.

Did you remove any tank rubbers?

Could be the tank on the frame

Re: Metallic noise at 7Krmp 04 600RR

I did have the bike serviced about a week ago which required tank removal, but it was doing this before that so I don't think it's the tank cover, but maybe the tank on the frame could be the culprit. Gonna take it back and have them look at it again. The nut or screw makes sense, just never thought of it. Have lost a screw before and couldn't find it, a nut too now that I think of it. I regularly check my cage hardware to make sure it is tight as I have had that problem before. The bike runs good and strong so it doesn't concern me too much, just driving me nuts. I will try what OMR said as well and see if I can isolate the source off the rattle.

Re: Metallic noise at 7Krmp 04 600RR

check the bottom cage bolt were it connects that seems to make the noise that you describe at that RPM.

Re: Metallic noise at 7Krmp 04 600RR

I checked all of my cage bolts and no dice. Checked the ez-pull, same story. Hard to tell, but it seems to be coming from my gas tank or at least in that area. It doesn't sound like loose change, the frequency is much closer if that makes any sense. It does sounds like a metallic rattle, but it almost sounds like a metallic hum. It's very fast, like the vibration of something that is just loose enough to make noise.

Kick it over in the road like 10 times. If it still makes the noise ill trade ya my F4i that makes all sorts of noises so i dont care to try to identify them anymore.

Sounds like your cam chain tensioner is starting to go. Honda designed their automatic cct's badly. It's a pretty common issue I recently changed the one in my rr and on my buddies f4i.

that was my first thought too but he said he brought it to the dealer and any mechanic should be able tell a cct rattle

Re: Metallic noise at 7Krmp 04 600RR

I am almost positive that it's not the cct. I haven't had a chance to go by the shop and have my buddy look at it yet due to my work schedule, but am going to during the middle of the week.
