what does it mean if the gauge cluster temp. part just shows -- the numbers are gone this is always. also the fi light and the brights light start flickering and the bike runs sputtery. its only after a little while though like 20-30 minutes

yes it is, the temperature never shows a number just two lines and everything flickering is after a while

no, I havent really started to tear everything apart yet I just got this bike I was kinda just wondering if anyones had the same type of problems.

Well, I know that when my 636 is cold, it reads "--", so if the motor is warm and it still reads that, the PCM is probably reading an open circuit from your engine coolant temperature sensor. With all the other stuff happening though, you probably have another problem causing that. I would agree with faceless in checking your grounds.

hook it up to a friends bike its probably some kind of connection problem, be the plug or a ground like he said
