I just checked that NICB.org site and it came up correct for 4 of the 4 VIN's I tried (3 clean and my sister's bike that was stolen). Just to add to it's credibility.

I was going through this as well.
1. Call the DMV
2. Called my local police dept. and had them run it.
3. In the great state of Texas you can get a bonded title if no title is offered. If someone does buy a "bill of sale" only bike and you called and vin# came back clean, to be safe just in case someone sells you a bike with a lien on it then decides to report it stolen for ins. purposes, on the "bill of sale" put that if at any time there is a claim filed on said bike the seller takes full responsability for any damages or penalties. This is what I was told.
And a bonded title stays "bonded" for 3 years, if no claims are filed within that time, bond is lifted and title becomes "clean"
And yes always include name, address, license #, and signature on a bill of sale.

if the guy has a title just check the titles vin numbers versus the frames numbers and make sure they match. Who jacks a bike and a tile, and for that matter who cares you got the tile you should be straight?

so im rebuilding my 05 gsxr 750... i got a title, i get a 04 600frame to replace my broken one, take it all to dmv in july 08 2 weeks later get my title... feb 09 i find a 05 750 frame n get that n put it on. take it all to dmv with the cert. destruction for the frame and 2 weeks later get my title.

yesterday i got a letter from the dmv... surrender ur title n bring ur bike, the 04 600 one was stolen n u cant use the fl C.O.D frame.

dmv's now started talking to eachother n know whats goin on in other states... LETS GET READY TO BE *** FUKED!
