05 600rr bang in gas tank

I am in iraq right now, so i havent got to mess with my tank yet, ordered all my stunt parts. Anyone know if on the 05 cbr600rr with the plastic tank cover if you can take the rubber mallot to it or not? A few people here say that I can't do it. Anyone tried it yet, or got any tips?

Re: 05 600rr bang in gas tank

that would never work. the tank cover would crack and on them bikes the metal tank is near the rear. i dont think you could dent that set up. get some grip tape and put that on your tank is the only way i think it could be done. (but maby im wrong) the rr is awsome road race bike not so good for a stunt unit...

Gotta take a hammer to the metal tank underneath and then heat the plastic tank from the underside. heat it untile it starts to brown and the immediately place it over the metal tank and push it down so that it take the shape of the metal tank underneath. keep doing this until you have the desired depth and shape. take you time it sucks.

Re: 05 600rr bang in gas tank

Take the tank cover off, pound the metal tank to where you feel you want it. I little wider because you will have a thick layer of plastic on top of it.

I used a torch VERY short heat sessions and pushed it down with a towel over it so i didnt burn my hands. It takes time and dont over heat it or you will bubble the paint on top. The underside you will char and crack but you wont see it up top. I spent alot of time on mine doing little by little but it is butter smooth and looks great.

TAKE YOUR TIME!!!!

Re: 05 600rr bang in gas tank

I did mine the same way krohnstunts described, but i used thick welders gloves to mash the plastic down. Then I drilled a couple small holes in the plastic and zip tied my stomp grip pad to it (couldnt get it to stick any other way).

Re: 05 600rr bang in gas tank

damn nice job on that dented gas tank.... I been researching this topic for a while now, but I still havent managed to take the time and try it. For now I just taped on Grib Tape... Works Good for Spreaders and Highchairs although I have slipped off of the tank a few times

Re: 05 600rr bang in gas tank

I'm going to try the whole torch attempt on the tank, probably gonna ebay a seccond tank cover tho because i know i will probably **** it up. I'm not to worried about the paint issue with the bubbling because I plan on repainting it anyway. Thank for the replies.
