its the same **** here in illinois. no helmet required...just require eye protection unless your bike has a windscreen. but like you said, why the **** do i have to wear a seatbelt in a car? i hate seatbelts. too uncomfy, and honestly, they scare me. my grandpa died in a car fire when the seatbelt mechanism didnt release. my dad almost had the same **** happen...makes me wonder if it runs in my family or something.

but yeah, i think you should be able to choose if you want to wear a helmet. i mean, it IS your body, isnt it? i can choose to smoke and that can destroy my lungs...i can choose to drink and that can destroy my liver. why shouldnt i be able to choose to ride without a helmet and possibly destroy my head?

Re: cali - riding with no helmet

from my understanding the helmet law passed in cali cause of the lane splitting law passing. no helmet law here in colorado, but lane splitting is a no no.

I think everyone missed the key point, it's about liability. Helmet laws lead to lower insurance rates and smaller insurance payouts because LESS **** GETS FUCKED UP in any given accident.

Unfortunately there are too many idiots out there who if they weren't FORCED to wear a helmet, they wouldn't.

I even wear my seatbelt in the car EVERYTIME I drive.

I know in the summer, I drive 5 minutes to cross into kansas, and 75% of the bikers don't have on helmets

I even wear a helmet on my 50!

edit: only ONCE in my life have I rode the streets with no helmet.
I went to kansas, we stopped off by the river, took off our helmets to cruise around.

I drove TWO blocks from where we took our helmets off, TWO BLOCKS! And a lady didn't look and pulled out in front of me.. I slammed my brakes and stopped within a few feet of hitting her, LUCKLY I had just turned onto this road and was only moving at around 15-20mph instead of cruising along at 25-35..
I pulled over, put my helmet on, and continued on for the day..

I don't know the exact statistics, but don't most motorcycle wrecks happen within about a mile of the riders own house?
I know when a **** pulled out in front of me and I broke my leg in 3 places, it was about 6 blocks from my house.. I was on my bike for a total of about 90 seconds

Re: cali - riding with no helmet

i know in Lousiana if you are 21+ and have over $10,000 in health insurance u dont have to wear a helmet..but **** that there are some BBBAAAADDDD drivers around here..and they think its us on bikes driving like ******** when we punch a mirror or hood of the car that is commin into my lane..which IS legal if the car is puttin you in a dangerous situation..and yeh i could just slam on the brakes or twist the throtle a lil,but maybe me taking a swing at their car will make them more aware of bikes on the road in the future..

Its when you least expect that you have the worst accidents Ie: just riding down the road. Ive been riding 12 years and the only two times ive broken a bone were pulling out of my driveway maybe 100ft down the road
WEAR A HELMET. its stupid not tooo. You will suffer if you dont

jk

but really, if i didn't have a helmet for alot of my wrecks, i would probably be missing half my skull and brains right now. so i wear always wear that **** when i'm "riding"...but if i'm

1. going to a homies pad down the street
2. going to 7-11 for a slushy
3. trying to roll-in looking hip to my ladies in the strip club

i'd like to be able to ride without a helmet.

probation?! WTF?!!!!

i googled it but couldn't find any articles that had dollar amounts in it.

i'd understand if it was $200.00 fine...but no way in ******* hell i'd risk getting probation.

Re: cali - riding with no helmet

I dont see the sense in attempting riding without a helmet when there is a helmet law... every single time you pass a cop you will get pulled over and given whatever penalty there is... its kind of obvious when someone isnt wearing their helmet... Its about as obvious as driving your car down the road with three wheels
