race slicks for endos?

Just wondering if anyone every tried to run a front race slick for endos? Does it hook up? How long does it take to warm up? I got a friend that will sell me a brand new front for $50... just wondering if its worth it?

Re: race slicks for endos?

race tires are designed to be used with heat cycles. and when there not heated there super greasy and when they heat up they hook up well . . . i've never used a front but i run race take offs on the rear and sometimes there super slippery and sometimes its tons of traction.

Re: race slicks for endos?

you have to get those REALLY hot... Great for a VERY clean surface but shitty other than that.

I ran them at the gap last year and took them off and sold them... Got some pirellis off of a track guy that had an extra set while I was down there so I could still ride...

I rolled a couple stoppies on them but that was when I was rolling like 15-20 feet... They were at the bottom of the gap so they had already warmed up and I guess it wasnt bad... thats all I got bro...

Re: race slicks for endos?

don't run it. had a buddy run one 2 weeks ago. sucked *****. no traction what so ever cause the front wheel was in the air most of the time. couldn't keep the tire hot enough. if you buy it sell it right a way for more $$

slicks have a ton of grip, just gotta preheat them, if the pavement is dry, they grip like MAD

I agree with Ryan on this one. On my 1000, I was running Pilot Power 2CT's and they are great tires, but if I rode for an hour on those tires, they would not even come close to the tire temp of the slicks. They will get hot enough to not want to touch them in a 1/4 of the time, and hook up the same, 4 times as fast. I have not tried to endo on a slick, but for wheelies....once warm, theres nothing better.
True, they are not **** if you get caught in the rain, and I also laid my bike down last fall with the slick on the rear as it wasn't warm yet, throttling way to hard out of a corner, but overall $ 50.00 is a great deal as these tires sell for upwards of $400 a tire depending on brand. My

Re: race slicks for endos?

having used ct's/slicks up front, do it for $50 bucks, but i wouldnt recommend them for lot use long term. the narrower profile was too sketch for me.. both felt unstable but i would wear the ct's until they were treadless. unless you rock long sessions of stoppies to get them hot enough id recommend the tried/true pilot powers. front slicks do have theyre feel like any other tire but i personally saw no major advantage - other than a deal.

if they were bombey everyone would already be rockin them.

Re: race slicks for endos?

I'm running Michellin racing slick on the front of my bike right now and it works well but you have to work them hard first and they take alot longer to work because they need much more heat.

and if you are doing wheelies for long and want to do a endo right after you put the wheelie down.... Doesnt work....
You have to heat it up again.

But I would say rather go for a good road racing tyre....

Re: race slicks for endos?

i run them when i can i like them! i was doing stopies in the rain after they warmed up.... for traction.... they are race tires... super sticky! just warm them up like your supose to and game on.
i suck at stoppies though. and it gives me a advantage i think..... plus my setup is garbage so i need all the help gettin that back tire up i can get! 50 buck for brand new id buy it but if its a take off it aint worth nothin. get it for free.
