Re: 03-04 vs 05-06 636 forks (yeah i know)

the 05 06 forks have a thicker wall then the 03 04 and the 03 04 rotors are smaller then the 05 06so if you are running 03 04 rotors on a set of 05 06 forks then your rotor is not all the way in your caliper and you are not using the whole pad ...

if you start with new pads and the rotor isn't going all the way in to the caliper then you run the risk of losing your brakes because the pads will wear to the point the rotor reaches and the part of the pad that isn't being used will eventually touch the pad on the other side and you will have no brakes ....

Here my question. Has anyone had any problems with the 05-06 forks? I know there is a set screw on the 03-04's so if they do get loose you can tighten them up and put a new set screw in. There is not one on the 05-06's. 05-06's have bigger rotors and not to mention look better. i have put a lot of time into my 03-04's making them not leak or loose so i would hate to get rid of them for the 05-06's if they aren't any better. thanks for the help.
just to be clear the set screw on the side of the 03 04 forks isn't the part that needs to be tightened , that just holds the fork tubes so they don't loosen ..

the part that needs to be tightened is the chrome part of the fork , it screws into the bottom part of the fork but that doesn't guarentee they wont still break because the wall thickness of the fork is too thin for the abuse we give them so they tend to flex alot and the more steel flexes the weaker it gets ..

yes yes old man i know that the chrome part needs to be tightened into the axle holder and the set screw helps it from coming out but i did not know that the wall thickness is different. thanks for that little tip. So old man which set would you choose?
