Re: gearing
yeah...sorry about the thread jack. but seriously, if you want a bike that will have a top end, get a real 600cc sportbike(inline 4, not a v-twin), and dont excessively gear it. I would say you could easily add 5 teeth and still outrun that sv with no problem. if you went up 10, you should start to be close to being at the same speed as the sv. anything after that and i think you would be fast as all hell accelerating, but you wont be getting any huge top speeds

Re: gearing
i think minus 1 plus three will be fine.... youll have alot of top end i started wit minus one plus two an it was great lots of low end an still top end. i only way 165 an ive had my speedo read 198 but they way they have it set up the digital speedo will read faster then what ur goin to prevent u from speedin an to make u think ur haulin (why the busa an 14 have mechanical not digital cuz digital isnt accurate at high speeds) but youll still do 165 easy wit a minus 1 plus three youll love the gixxer lol or at least i do....

Re: gearing
well the facts provided by the guy with the r6 article say that my 08 zx6r does 165.. ive had it to 160 n wuz comin up on a hill so i didnt really top it out persay but it didnt really have a whole lot left.. but im sure it woulda gone 5 more mph... but u guys think thas all wrong too?... im pretty sure a 600 will do 165 but very highly doubt 200 as a matter of fact i will call complete bullshit.. even if u had a smaller geared sprocket in the rear

Re: gearing
my bud has a 07 gsxr 750.. he said he got it to around 165-170 ish. and of course like every other bike the accuracy in the speedo may be off by a lot . and that's a lot lower.
if it's geared it's not drastic. still has stock chain and chain length.

Re: gearing
most people dont realize how much the gearing can screw the speedo over. all it does is read the rpms from the output shaft of the transmission and calculate that into a speed. if you go from a 45 tooth to a 60 tooth in the back, you are going to be reading the same speed at a set rpm, but in reality, you will be going 25% or 33%(im not sure which) slower than the reading you are getting.
stock chain and chain length has nothing to do with the speed reading. you can have an 8" stretched swingarm, but if you are still running the stock sprockets, you will still be going the same actual speed at the same revs as you would on a stock swingarm with those stock sprockets. your sprockets change your gear ratio(along with tire tread depth, but that is minimal), not your chain.

Re: gearing
i think that would still be a LONG stretch. if i remember right, MCN announced the new R6 was the first bone stock 600 that can hit 170. according to them, the gixxers all top out at an actual 155-165. with that gearing, i think(assuming it can hit 165 on stock) his top speed would be more around 145-155. sure, the speedo will still say something higher, but the actual speed the bike is traveling will be lower.(see my last post about the gearing ******* the speedo over...not retyping all that ****)
MCN is so wrong about almost everything man, and they can be bought like a bunch of sellouts. They say what the money tells them to say. **** whatever MCN says.

Re: gearing
i will agree that a lot of what they say isnt perfectly accurate. but what i want to know is this...what is it that makes people think a 600 will hit 180+ when the liter bikes cant even hit 200?
