Re: gearing

There was some kind of gentlemens agreement among the manufacturers and they all agreed to not produce motorcycles that could go over 200. No stock 600 can even hit 170. That being said Ive topped out many 600's and most say there goin 17* maybe even 180, but its wrong plain and simple.

The limiter is set at 186. Why? Because 186mph is 300 kph.

I read in a magazine cover that the New R6 was the first 600 to hit 170. Not saying its true but just wanting to get some insight. I will look around and see if I can find anything on it again.

Yup. Found it on Motorcyclenews.com

i think it was less of a gentlemens agreement, than it was a government mandate. the speed limiter can easily be bypassed with a tricker. the way the speed limiter is set up it shuts the bike down at a predetermined rpm in sixth gear, all the tricker does is fools the bike to thinkin its in 5th. even with the speed limiter bypassed(which only comes on big bores), i'm gonna say the top speed for most 600's is about 155 give or take a 5mph.

Re: gearing

i was doing 164 on my friends 08 gsxr 600 with stock gearing so i highly doubt 200 was done on an 07 and he did mean 300 kph, 200 kph is only 124.28 mph to be exact lol

Something else most people don't consider is thats what the speedo says. Thats not true speed. The faster you go the more error there is on the reported speed.

Re: gearing

Anytime someone says there bike does over 200mph, I assume a few things

A: they never even rode a bike
B: they don't own their own bike
C: they have never even seen 160 on the speedo otherwise they'd realize that is about where the bike stops accelerating

they are off by around 15% at high speed, that's a known fact..

When I'm hitting 172 on my f4i, I'm probably REALLY doing around 150ish

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

**** I hate morons.

Tread depth and wear on a tire effects what your speedo says.
Gearing creates a huge inaccuracy.
Speedos can be off from the factory by up to 10%.
The faster you go the higher the margin of error, plain and simple the margin of error is directly proportional to the speed.

Try reading up on the coefficient of drag and what it takes for a bike to break 200 mph.

PS, learn the difference between metric and standard measurements.

******* idiots should be sent to penal colonies to fend for themselves.
