Its free if you do it within their initial warranty period (forgot how long that is) and then continue to send it in meeting their required intervals for maintenance. You also must have a receipt proving date of purchase. If you dont have any of that and didnt send it in during the first required maintenance period I think it was $30. I just had it done not to long ago but dont remember.

Not sure how many of you squids know this but the SCOTTS damper was made back in 1995 I believe? And it was designed for dirt bikes!!!!!!!!! DIRT BIKES! The main target was enduros. Scotts just started selling them for street bikes because they saw a market for them and all they had to do was produce different mounting kits. Is a rotary style damper the best for a sport bike? NO! I knew that the Scotts was developed for dirt bikes because I still have one of the magazines from 1995 where it was introduced, I never even asked any questions about it and some semi-pro sport bike racers were bashing the hell out of the rotory dampers, they dont work the same as a linear style damper and part of the reason is that there is an air bubble that seeks the center position and thats why the center always feels like there is nothing there. Rotary style are definitely nice because they are compact but you should really run an Ohlins or Hyperpro. I love the Hyperpro, I think it works excellent, I just hate that the mounts always come lose even when you lock tight them and they have all those o-rings that tear and they seem to leak oil faster than any other one out there.

If you get a chance, ask some guys that road race, preferably someone that has an opinion that matters, not some squid that just picked up a mint 98 smokin joes F3 and some green leathers that he got a smokin deal on ebay!

i know a guy thats races 636s and the only thing he runs on all his bikes are scotts. i like mine but i would think a rod style is has less play then a rotory by design.

Just a little /rant

But is there any car or motorcycle in the world that uses a 'rotary' style suspension?

They all use rod right?

Why would rotary be good? If it's soo much better, wouldn't they incorporate that into high end suspensions?

I don't have much damper experience. But I will tell you I have never seen a OEM gixxer damper leak personally.. But I have seen a few gpr's leak just from daily drivers

Re: GPR initial play? WTF?

A steering stabilizer is made to keep the bars straigh after a hard hit, much like a chinese finger trap ( yeah I know bad analogy) but if you go slow then it wont keep them straight but if you take a hard hit then it will keep them straight.

On a car or bike you would still have to have a rod attached to the rotary suspension or else you would have no clearance, and the rod suspension is smaller and lighter.

Re: GPR initial play? WTF?

make sure everything is tight up front...head bearings that are slightly loose can cause headshake even with the best damper on.

check everything...
