Re: Blew out my knee..

if u went to see a doc please do what he said, it will save u in the long run. if they told u to rest for 6 weeks then u will have to rest for 6 weeks. remember the outside wound heal faster than the inside wound.

Re: Blew out my knee..

Damn, you guys suck at giving good news.

I went to the ER since the Girlfriend kept bugging me about it, but it was a waste of time. They even seemed irritated that I've already been doing what they suggested I do. (R.I.C.E.) And were baffled that I already had crutches.

I'm going to go to the Ortho. Doc tomorrow and see what he has to say.
Thanks for the insight guys.

'Tussin didn't work, tried that the first night.

Re: Blew out my knee..

yeah if you go the artho route you wont have much downtime. But whose to say its even that bad. Just stay off it and see what the surgeon says. I get to pitch my effin crutches in 19 days.

did it the same way as you.....trying to save a 12.

good luck.
I had my ACL replacement surgery in October. I can't lie, the healing process has sucked thus far, but you get used to it. Dr told me I'd be on crutches 6-8 weeks, and I was on them for 7 weeks. PT helps a ton. I go 3 days a week for 2 hours each time, its a big commitment but its needed.

It depends on the type of surgery. My dr. told me if you use the cavader, you can heal quick than if you take a graft. My dr. used a graft from my patellar ligament (below your knee cap). I will be at PT for 6 months total.

Re: Blew out my knee..

you said you can squat.
REHAB yourself! stretch the knee out gradually, do full range of motion squats with really light weight (even body weight is fine). do leg extensions, maybe walk up stairs (down stairs when you get it stronger) etc...

Yeah I had surgery 3.5 weeks ago (still on crutches) I've only been to the physical therapist 2 times. Ive been working on getting my range in motion back (I cant put weight on my knee for another 2.5 weeks). I saw the doctor today and he said everything looked good and he was impressed with how much range of motion I have gained. Knee feels great and I cant wait to ditch the crutches. I have been working my knee pretty hardcore at home. I dont go to phys therapy much because I can do everything at home. I think it also helped that I was at the gym working out hardcore before the surgery.

Re: Blew out my knee..

I had a bucket handle tear on my medial meniscus and a torn ACL from trying to save a highsided circle, got the meniscus cut out and an ACL graft. Physical therapy is the most important part after the surgery. They give you exercises to start doing the day after the surgery. Do not skimp on the exercises or the PT or you will never get your full range of motion back. It took me about 4 months before I felt comfortable riding again. Took a year before I had confidence in the knee again. However, I think I tore it again playing soccer with the nephews over thanksgiving. Blowing a knee out sucks. It's never the same again.

I guess it depends on what method you get done man....but I had the donor cadaver done, and I was riding in march or april, but as far as having full range of motion is what I sucked at. It took a while for me to get that back, while being able to comfortably participate in sports and working out and stuff, it's not something that I was really able to commit to fully when I got out of rehab.
