as far as the price goes there is no way to tell , some people think welding is brain surgery and they want a million dollars

hahah thats cause you didnt heat treat....

aluminum is a weird material... it can only have so many heatcycles before it just becomes brittle and weak an gabbage... obviously the heatcycles that affect the aluminum are above 300 degrees so there never affected by riding or anything. but touch it with a tig torch and thats a diffrent story.

i braced and heat treated a good frame... its still holdn strong after many months of abuse!!
but i was at our secret spot yesterday and J.Britton and Tony were out there, he brought up the guys at kawi say dont heat treat new frames because it makes the frame rigid instead of have the stock torsional flex that all newer bikes frames are designed to have, in order to be able to get power down easier in corners. but hearing this i will still heat treat after welding because i have seen with my eyes on our Barcol and Webster hardness testers the frame is retardly weak after welding.... so at this point in time, with my current knoledge on the subject, my advice is still heat treat.

now on your specific frame i would say the BEST option would be replace and have a good welder, weld up some bracing and gussets, something simliar to mine and heat treat. and sell title.

the reason i say new frame is because the left side tab is broken off right by the bolt... no matter what i couldnt see that ever being near stock strength, because its cast... if you were to save the frame i would cut and add a machined billet piece there...

haha to much typing hope this helps...

goodluck

Re: Weld a cracked frame?

I'd take it to a well experienced welder and have him repair it and reinforce it with plates and gussets how ever it can be done and not get in the way of anything critical on the bike. Then get an ATOWNCUSTOMS CAGE

Re: Weld a cracked frame?

if you're welding your engine connections back.
I should go for new connections for your cage only, directly to your frame.
no more drama like this then in the future. cages should not be fitted on the engine connections. but hey that's the easiest way ...
