Re: when regearing my 636...
Didn't have time to read every reply, but what are you using the bike for? Street/stunt on just a parking lot bike.
What sprocket sizes you going with? -1 on the front is the limit for most applications. Reducing the radius too much will put unwanted strain on the chain.
Here's another thought. I sold 1 of my 636's this year and I am now down to one bike. I have a spare wheel with a +5 sprocket and carrier that I use for the street and I have a +19 sprocket and carrier that I use for the lots.
With 10 minutes an a couple of hand tools I can go from a lot only bike to a street/stunt set up.
I used (god forbid) 2 clip style masters and a short lenght of chain to do the swap.
P.S. I've only broken one chain in 4 years on that bike and I split the FACTORY link.

alright, now to be a pain in the ***, can someone take a picvid or something of the rivet procedure? i'm doin this to two bikes here in the very near future. once the chain is on the bike, how do you hold the chain while beating it with a hammer..... haha- that sounds like i'm pretty "getto" doesnt it....
i have a clip style right now, but i thought i'd try the rivet style.
looked on youtube and i didnt get much...

Re: when regearing my 636...
i ride more street than anything so i only wanted to go up bout 5-7 in the rear so i can still attempt to evade the law... there pretty strict around this town. i wanted to leave the front alone cus i didnt wanna throw off the speedo. besides droping one in the front is no diff than adding bout 2-3 to the rear right? but what about finding the masterlink on a factory chain? i looked n looked n they all looked the same...

i thought that the speedo runs off the front sprocket... n if i leave it alone n dont change the outer diamiter of the rear tire, tire size, that changing the rear sprocket would leave the speedo accurate. just slow me down a lil n the speed would read correct... but i could be wrong.

So, in conclusion I would have to say a center bunch is a direct hit.

The speedo pick up runs off of the output shaft that is connected to the front sprocket. It measures the rpm of that shaft to get a speed. If you change the gear ratio, whether through the front, rear or both sprockets, the speedo pick up will see a different rpm of that shaft. i.e. if you go with a bigger rear/smaller front sprocket, the electronic pick up is going to think that the bike is going faster than what it really is.
