Need a little gearing help for a 636.
I just picked up an 04 636. Ive always ran litter bikes on the highway for the most part. No that I have this bike Im wanting to gear it for parking lot and highway both...I need to know what a good commn geraing is that will work for both of them...the bike is stock right now, and I cant remeber how many teeth are on it that way...I was wondering if going up 6-8 teeth in the rear would be enough for the lot, but too much for the highway...Whats some of your suggestion to get good results out of both?

i would think 6-8 should be fine. if you want to see how many more revs you will be turning out, take your bike on the highway, get it up to speed and take note of how many revs youre turning. now take your current gearing(mine is 16/48 stock) and calculate that [3], and then take what you will be going to use and calculate it. now divide the new ratio by the the old one (new/current). that should give you a 1.### take that number times how many revs you were turning out, and it will give you an idea of how many you will be turning out after you go to the new gearing.
if you want, tell me the current gearing, rpms, and what the new gearing would be and i will do the math for you.
1: divide current rear tooth by front tooth=num1
2: divide new rear tooth by front tooth=num2
3: divide num2 by num1(num2/num1)=num3
4: multiply the revs at a known speed on current gearing by num3=new rev amount at that speed
hope that helps

+10 is perfect so a 50 is what you want our bikes chug pretty good anyway you can circle them easily with stock gearing with a high idle but everyone i ride with runs a 50 and down 1 front me personaly i run a 56rear but it stays in the lot except for the streetrides .

I had a 50 tooth,+10 and didn't like it on the highway. It vibrated my throttle hand too much.
I went down to 45 teeth, +5 from stock. Stock front sprocket.
love it for lots and street.
It would be nice to have a little more gear in the lot but I would rather be able to go fast.
