Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
haha i agree.. i own two f250s a 2001 V10 f250 and a 05 F250 diesel with the gabbbbbage 6.0. blew E.G.R. which fucked turbo and bunch of stupid sensors around 55,000 miles. its from over boosting. lame .
the V10 is a offroad monster thou! thing has taken a beating that no chevy could handle! Ha
i personally like all the trucks for diffrent reasons. but for your purpose i would go dodge. and upgrade the tranny if you go automatic. i even did it to my fords. diesels, especially with a programmer, can tear up any stock tranny.
...hope the legs doing better buddy

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
I HAVE 3 BOLT ONS ON MY 03 DODGE 2500 6SPD AND IM PUTTING OUT 338 HP AND 775 TQ TO THE WHEELS WITH A BOX AND COLD AIR AND EXHAUST AND A SLIPPING CLUTCH
JUST DO YOUR HOME WORK BEFORE YOU PUT BOLT ON MODS ON UR TRUCK
JUST DO YOUR HOME WORK BEFORE YOU PUT BOLT ON MODS ON UR TRUCK
Teacher... In 04-07' I had a 05' ford f350 6.0 ltr dually that made an obscene amount of power. 495hp 971 trq to the wheels. (***** Can Back me up on the power ) I pulled a 20x8 trailer all around the country doing shows and competing. The dually is ur only option when ur pulling long distances, on curvy roads. The weight dispurtion is 100x better with the dual rear axle. And with the weight and length of that trailer ur dreamimg of, u would have some serious swaying goin on back there if u decided on a single wheeled truck. The chevy as much as I hate to say it is ur best option right out of the box. The ride, power and Tranny of a factory Chevrolet 3500 is the best on the market and the Chevy will hold its value longer than the Ford or the Dodge. Did I mention it rides like a Cadillac? I would NEVER buy the dodge anyways due to the fact that U would have to spend $$$ to make it even think about performing like the others and it rides like ****. The Ford is a head gasket killer if u try and put any kind of real power to it (over 400 whp)And Rides like **** too. They all have their problems but if i had to go buy ANOTHER 50,000$ dually truck it would be a Chevrolet 3500 or even a 6500 if the price was right. U already have ur F350 so u know about the maintainence of a deisel, just add 2 more tires and a 2000$ hitch setup and u'll be ready to hit the road. And why would u need a 40ft trailer to get all ur crap in? Other than the pimp factor? Zanny is gonna hate u for making him drag that monster all over. Zanny, I hope u known how to back up a trailer that long bro...

Yeah I'm partial to Ford, but if I was going to buy a diesel, I would buy the dodge with the mega cab.

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
I put at least 20k on this setup from 06 to early 08 with 6 Custom bikes in the trailer, and some equpiment. The bikes were mostly chromed out Busa's, 1000's, and ZX-14's.
Personally to me, it's a safety issue. The dually is the only way to go. Anybody that has done alot of towing has gotten that shitty feeling in their stomach on the interstate when the *** end of the truck starts to sway. You're talking about a big trailer, reguardless of it's load. At 70 Mph that thing will push the back of your truck around in front of you before you can say "10 car pile up".
Yes a standard 2500 will pull the trailer, it might even do it well. Stopping the trailer, or holding the side load push down a curvy hill is another thing. The power isn't really the issue. Any Diesel is going to move the trailer, some more easily than others.
As for presence- clearly the Dually is the attention getter. There are a million kids driving around in F-250s Teach - you should know, you're one of them.
(I keed, I keed )
I love my chevy, but know that their Diesel trucks aren't the most reliable. Darius and John Legion can vouch for that.
The Fords are awesome, but the 6.0 sucks IMO, and the 7.3 is older, and won't be in the mileage bracket you want, even if you were to do the updated headlights and grill.
I was never a dodge fan, and had bad experiences with Chrysler transmissions.... but with the 10 year / 100,000 mile powertrain warranty - I would be looking at a new Megacab Dodge Dually.
The new F450's are baller - but I've read bad things about the turbo setup.
The trailer is the easy part. There are so many motorsport companies going out of business that you can get a NICE used trailer real cheap right now. The truck is the business end of things.
Again, this is all opinion and alot of the guys on here probably have alot more experience than I do - but seriously dude, if you're gonna spend the $$$ go with a dually. Wouldn't wanna see you on MSNBC with 40 feet of bikes and trailer smashed into your ***.

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
sorry my bad i read an old edition of truckin mag that had a wright up about the new 09 line of dodge trucks that said they were putting an all new for 09 v8 cummins in the hd trucks but the inline 6 is still bulletproof but imo they need to build a v8 to compete
dually is the only way to go with a trailer that big

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
Not bad but Didnt u also say ur truck has a stick in it so were talking around 17% driveline loss... an automatic can be as high as what 21-23 due to converter slippage? Ur truck was a LONG way off in power and torque my friend. I PROMISE my F350 wouldve ripped ur rear axle out if we tied them together not to mention wasted u 1/4 mile and top speed. Not to mention BETTER LOOKING!!! LOL And Deisel performance has changed ALOT since ive had mine I'm sure but in 05' when I was doing things to my daily driven towing truck it was pretty serious for that time. I own a Toyata Tundra now and it gets waaay better mileage

never had that happen but on our way to starboyz in 06 guru, az, and myself and i was driving with the trailer that i did not hook up someone else did... flyin down the highway at 85 hit a bump around a turn in the fast lane trailer lifts off the ball and slams into the back of the truck... in the rear view mirror it looked like the 4th of july fron all the sparks... i eased the brakes and stayed in front of it untill it stopped in the middle of the fast lane.... come to find out someone left the 2in ball on when it needed a 2 and 5/16

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
wow lots of good info here, heres some more info.
1. i dont care what it looks like, gonna get wrapped
2. i don't work on trucks so i'm not interested in swapping anything or paying anyone to do it really....UNLESS its something that NEEDS or really should be done.
3. i dont care about HP and all taht other doodad ****
4. i don't care about the mega cab bc i wont be in the back seat (thats waht the toy hauler is for), all i care about is having a 4 door
is there really a sig difference with a long bed? and can you even get a long bed dually?
i ride my **** stock whenever i can.
that being said, i think i'm sold on the dually.
here's what argo had to say about diesels:
Ford 00-03 7.3 liter not 6.0
Chevy newer thatn 05
Dodge newer han 03
so, as of right now i'm leaning towards a dodge, maybe an 06 or something....and do i want stick or auto?
as for the trailer, the quality difference for an extra 10-15k is significantly better and i want to own the trailer at the end of the year and the idea is that the sponsors pay for it, so thats why the 36-40 footer. i spend too much time in hotels and travelling so being able to have my 'house' with me wherever i go is appealing and saves someone money on hotels and whatnot.
i've put 70k on my ford v10 with nothing but oil changes and i know NOTHING about trucks (this is my first non toyota beater full size truck) but i'm pretty sure the tranny is about to go bc it clunks like a **** at starts/stops, but other than that it has treated me well. anyone wanna buy it? 110k, king ranch, v10, prolly needs a tranny, but fine other than that. rebuilt title bc it got hit in the bed (new bed---argo special!).
keep 'em coming, you learn something new every day!

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
yes there is a difference with short and long bed when it comes to towing, like i said with the long bed it keeps the trailer farther away from the cab and spreads the weight out better... dodge is not the best on the tranny, not saying it wont do it but with the miles your going to put on it, it might be reasuring to get a stick... you dont have to shift much when your on the e-way... 40ft trailer is a lot of stress running through the auto... not to mention a sensor goes out could leave you stuck in bfe all cause of a $40 part and your lazy about shifting and if your doing a 5th wheel for sure i would say stay away from the mega cab cause the bed is so small you'll be taking out the cab for sure

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
rowdy has flipped 1 to many stoppies, chevy sucks, does ride nice though, and i dont have much knowledge on a dually sense i have never owned or towed with one... still luv you rowdy
22mpg load down with what 1 bmx bike... fyi just cause the over head says 22mpg dont mean your getting it... fuel chips fool the ecu in to thinking there is not much fuel dumping in so that why the over head says it gets amazing fuel economy... i put 50,000 miles on my dodge diesel in 12 months i towed all the time and it went from stock 250hp at the wheels to 557hp and 1128ftlbs of torque lets just say i know the ins and outs of the mpg on these trucks
your are right, still a 6bannger but bigger at 6.7L

Re: pulling big trailers full of stuntbikes?
Well ive had a 95, 96, 99, dodge 3500 they seem to have the power to pull whatever My last 99 i pulled a 53ft car trailer with 4 cars on highway and would get 16-18mpg then with empty pull just the trailer i would get close to 23mpg thats pulling a 9k lb empty trailer(going about 65mph)
i had 80hp injectors 5inch exhaust from turbo back, edge 120hp chip with juice with attitude, 6spd tranny i sold the truck with 940k miles on it, so i know they can last forever
I would def go with dodge you cant beat the price and the mpg the cummins is the best bang for the buck out there, ive also had a 05 harley davidson f250 with the 6.0 but the dodge just has much more power
if you do go the dodge route the cheapest place to get a new dodge is in bonham, tx ive had 3 friends order from there in the last year its called http://www.bonhamchrysler.com/ im talking like a 08 dodge 3500 cummins for 30k brand new with the warrenty lol

I did forget to mention that I am from MI we don't have to have are cars inspected so most people around here run straight pipes whiich if you know even a little about diesels the more free flowing the exhaust and intake are the better you truck wiill run and better mpg you will get
