04 636 weak idle?

iv done the clean air mod and i put my stock exhaust back on and iv checked all the vacuum hoses but still even with a 60t sprock and idle cranked up to 5000revs it wont hold idle when i clutch it up from stand still. i have to keep blipping the throttle to keep it up.. on my f4i with 2.5k revs it was more than enough.

other than the idle prob the bike runs fine.

any ideas on why iv got no low end power..at all?

I have a five page thread on this same issue. Look it up. I still haven't solved the problem, but it seems that others have.

my first thought when i read this was he didn't block off the vacuum line that goes to the pair valve

Re: 04 636 weak idle?

the 2 lines that were uncapped have been capped with screws.

i had another look at it all before and i noticed the bolt i put in the big airbox hole wasnt real tight.. could that of done it?

i replaced it with a tighter fitting bolt that i had to screw in but havent had a chance to ride it yet. was going to replace the plugs tomoro and see if that helps.

Re: 04 636 weak idle?

i can't tell much by those pics but when you replaced the pair valve with the pvc t fitting there was a small vacuum line connected to the pair valve , did you plug it ?

and i doubt the loose fitting bolt had any thing to do with it but if your plugs are old that is probably the problem ..

p.s in the picture you posted the new hose for the crank case vent needs to be longer so you can wrap it around the out side of the throttle bodies so your air box will fit

Re: 04 636 weak idle?

i just re read your post and you mentioned two lines capped , one came from the pair valve but where did the second one come from ?? you should have only disconnected the one from the pair valve and capped it

+1 vacuum line is my first guess too, if its not plugged 100% it sucks in hot air and the bike idles like ****

+2 on that, make sure there are no vacuum leaks (double check all the little lines on the front side of the TB's) and put some fresh spark plugs in it...

Re: 04 636 weak idle?

instead of capping just the one line going into the vaccum hoses i done it like how its been done in this pic. but the cap in the pic thats circled was already capped off. so i only had 2 lines to plug with bolts. is it normal for the end one to be capped off when the bike is stock?

the rest of the hoses are definatly on right and none are leaking.

iv read up on problems with the kleen air mod and it doesnt sound exactly like mine because mine doesnt fluctuate at all just has no low end power. if i never rode on idle id never know the difference.. when it was stock all round it pulled alllllot harder than it does now. might fit back up the standard hoses and pair valve and see how it runs then.

and roger that hose does usually wrap around the airbox just looks short in that pic.

i had to remove my throttle bodies when i was running a new loom could they need to be synced again?

Re: 04 636 weak idle?

the clean air mod isn't the cause of your problem , the clean air mod gives you a better pull on idle and taking the throttle bodies off and putting them back on shouldn't require a sync

Re: 04 636 weak idle?

see the sensor in your pic that says "cap under here" ? there are two of those sensors and one will have a vacuum line going to it and the other should be open and not capped off..........

Re: 04 636 weak idle?

Since you took the tb's off are sure they are seated back down firmly?
Here is a good way to check for an intake leak. Get a can of starting fluid w/ a straw on it and go to the end of each vacuum line and just spray a little bit around it. If the engine revs up, you just found a vacuum leak.
If it worked b/4 the kleen air mod or removal of the tb's then your problem lies w/in one of those 2 things.

Re: 04 636 weak idle?

if you look at the last picture you posted the sensor that you have the arrow pointing at that says cap under here i believe thats the one that is supposed to be open and there is another sensor that looks exactly like it that is just right and forward of it that should have a vacuum line going to it from one of the throttle bodies...

try that along with the new spark plugs and if it doesn't work then put the vacuum line on the other one and leave that one open but i think i got it right

i seen that written in another post about the throttle bodies maybe being loose. i tightend em up so il see how that goes. also seen that if the tb's or the airbox is too tight it can create a gap in the seal?

so many small things that can cause such a big problem!

il try that straw trick tonite too!

cheers
