Re: Calling aLL NY stunters and stunteresses
gil called him 2 days ago and the dude shot it up to 3g's! that's bs for salvage being that its so hard to clean the title up. also i'm sure its more damaged that he alleges. i'll see if gil can call again and offer 1500 for that salvage title, cuz max that's all its worth.

Can I get a crash course in what exactly it means to "clean up" salvage titles out here? Can you turn them into clean titles? Also, why does it matter?
In CA we only had clean and salvage titles. Salvage titles could never become clean. But you could still insure and ride salvage titled vehicles on the street, but most places would only give you liability insurance. But that never really mattered, I never had full coverage on my bikes

yeah, ny and nj doesn't like motorcycles. they are a huge liability in terms of accidents, theft and well...insurance fraud.
to clean up a salvage title, you need receipts for all items replaced. you need to pass inspection the bike must be MINT...right down to working turn signals- MINT. to get to the inspection stage, it takes MONTHS just to get an appointment. inspectors literally go through every document you provide for receipts to ensure you are not delving into stolen parts which also takes months. then it takes months to provide you with the clean title so you can register it and ride the streets w/ insurance so you won't get tossed in jail.

Doh, I edited my post after you replied.
So NY salvage titled vehicles are not street legal in NY? That sucks. I wonder how all of our CA salvage titles are going to transfer over (I think Leah looked into it and it should be cool, I just can't remember exactly).

no salvage cannot be ridden on the streets, if u get caught, the bike could be taken away.
If a salvage vehicle is rebuilt for use on roadways, the DMV must examine it before the DMV can issue a new title certificate or registration. The required examination is part of the NYS Auto Theft Prevention Program. The program includes vehicles that were issued a NYS Salvage Certificate (MV-907A). The program also includes rebuilt salvage vehicles from most other states.
A NYS title certificate issued after the date of May 18, 1999 for a rebuilt salvage vehicle displays the brand, "Rebuilt Salvage". Some title certificates issued before May 19, 1999 also show this brand. Read more information about the salvage branding process.
The salvage vehicle examination is not a safety inspection, an emissions inspection, or an insurance examination. The salvage vehicle examination is a separate and additional examination conducted by DMV investigators.
The DMV Division of Field Investigations Auto Theft Unit administers the Salvage Vehicle Examination Program.

As for moving, I wanted to live in a city, Leah wanted to go to school out here, etc. No doubt CA is a nice place. There were obviously things that I didn't like about it, but I'm sure I'll have things I don't like about NY in a few years. New places are exciting, I figure I should experience as much as I can while I'm young with nothing binding me to where I live

Also, in Nassau county, you need insurance on any motor vehicle. Even if its being ridden on private property, trailered there, etc. In Suffolk county you only need insurance if its on the street, and I dont know about nyc.
