tech questions
put a set of "chrome pros" rims and new bearings on my 636 and now theres a loud popping everyone time I take off, rip it up, n sometimes while just ridin.
So far Ive taken the rim apart checked the cush drives, sprocket, disconnected calipers and took off the HoHey bracket, I cant seem to figure it out. Its still popping. When I put the bike on the stands the noise seems confined to the rear rim.
Could the bearings be pressed in wrong or just fuced up, or something defective with the rims? My other set of rims were fine on the bike. This ever happens to anyone???

Re: tech questions
i know exactly what your prob is. your missing a spacer and i think it's the one that goes between the two bearing in the middle of the rim so now u gonna need new bearings again

Re: tech questions
bearings are around $10, i believe and relatively easy to install (if you take your time). check your rim first and if its okay then pull the wheel and remove the seals and take a look at your races.

Re: tech questions
well before you go throwing parts at it diagnose it first. buying just the races isnt worth it just buy the entire bearing (if you need it), they are cheap enough.

Re: tech questions
if you get the number off the bearing, you should be able to get them from any bearing supplier if they arent OEM MFG bearings (some are and can only be purchased at a dealer) I looked up rear wheel bearings for an 04 636 they're $13.xx each.
check for missing spacers, I dont think thats the cause, in most cases if there is a missing spacer the wheel will bind up and not spin..... you'd notice that right away!
If your rims have real chrome (triple chrome plating) they went through an acid wash, its possible that there is a crack but the rim probably would have been defective before it was plated. A chrome shop knows that chroming an aluminum rim takes away some of its integrity and we can only hope that shops chroming wheels have it down to enough science where people lives arent put in danger.
