Steering Damper

I was wanting to get a steering damper. I saw alot of ppl use that gpr stabilizer. Is that the best or will the rod and tube kind work because they are a hell of a lot cheper. I have an 01 f4i

Re: Steering Damper

i like adjustable. you can set it between city, highway, stunt. wide range to fit your comfort.

Re: Steering Damper

i had a scotts on my 900rr and the adjuster was hard and locked up all the time. on the busa a bought a factory rod replacement that wasnt adjustable and it was too hard to turn on right hand city turns. you get what you pay for.

Re: Steering Damper

i run a scotts on my 636 and love it. i noticed when i go on a suicide run doing 150 on the freeway, the damper needs to be reset, perse. that may have something to do with the highspeed dampening thats always on though.

Re: Steering Damper

GPR might be easy to adjust on the fly, but SCOTTS is the way to go. never have to buy an O-ring or gasket kit like you do w/ gpr. you can abuse it and crash it and unless the damper itself hits something hard the scotts will last and last. not so sure of the how the tube and rod type lasts, but I think they stick out too far... my gixxer has one on the lower tripple inside the fairing, that would be nice on a FF stunter, but even if you got the adjustable one it would be hard to get your hand down there w/ a glove on to turn the ****.

try some adjustment. with Scotts damper - stiffer on highspeed makes the lowspeed slightly softer.
stiffer on the lowespeed makes the highspeed slightly softer. (and vise-versa)

on my DB I set the highspeed in the middle and: for fast I turn the lowspeed softer, for slow I turn it stiffer(lowspeed is easily adjustable)

DB doesn't go 150, but 75 in a sand wash (or however fast it'll go, maybe over 80.... no speed O) is way more wobbly than anyspeed on the street, and it doesn't ever need to be "re-adjusted"...

Re: Steering Damper

i usually have it on 18 clicks from off. i noticed after a high speed run that it didnt feel as stiff. i turned it off (24) and reset it to 18 and it stiffened right back up. i havent made any adjustments to the high speed settings yet. i dunno if it needs a rebuild or not. it feels fine except for after that one run.
