Re: slipped/ruptured disk

Ive had it happen to me. I broke my back and had two slipped discs. I went to a chiropractor to try and alleviate the pain and it got worse. Then I went to surgeon and had surgery. I spent a week in the hospital and still have back pain. I found a good chiropractor now and he has been more benneficial then the surgeon.

So my advice, find a good chiropractor...straight chiropractor. Give me a call if you want to discuss further. I was in a wheel chair and couldnt walk so I understand the pain and the frustration.

Hey man, I read most of the thread and I don't want to sound like a know-it-all, but my girlfriend is an x-ray tech for two of the best spinal surgeons in the area( http://indianaspinecenter.com/ ). If you have any questions and don't want to pay for them, feel free to shoot me a pm.

Thorpe has been dead-on with his explanation, but if you need any more advise or just have a question, let me know.

Good deal. I would just complain about it now and then when you get out, let the VA pay a real doctor to do it. F those military quacks, I have already had 2 of the 3 surgeries/dental procedures fixed that they did. They fucked me all up!

Re: slipped/ruptured disk

Dont know if its the same thing but I have a disc in my back/neck pressing against my spinal cord and its causing my hand to be numb. Its been like this for about 2 months already. I was fine one day and went to sleep. Woke up the next day with my left hand completely numb Doc told me I must've slept wrong. I kept riding with it like that and it got worse. At that point my hand was continuously numb and I also started having pains in my wrist. Finally after about 3 weeks I started going to the chiro and I went to get an MRI done. I stopped riding for 2 weeks and went to the chiro 3x a week and PT as well as iced my hand and neck a couple of times a day. It started getting better. Then I got back on the bike and now its fucked again I shouldnt have stopped going to the chiro and pt coz I think that was helping me so this week I started going back to the chiro. MT B Ruthless on here also posted a thread about numb hands and in a pm told me he started taking vitamin e (something about it helps with your nerves) and also wore a wrist brace which I was also doing. That along with stretching and he said he's all good. This is what he wrote about the vitamin e.

the vitemin E 400 iu is an antioxidant.it works to protect cell membranes in the nerves, muscles and cardiovascular system

Hope your **** heals up. Oh and try to sleep on your back rather than your sides.

new studies show that 90% of all herniated slipped bulging dicks heal themselves without surgery....back surgery is the 2nd most unnecessarily done surgery....knees being the first..... go to this website.... http://www.all-sport.com/medx.html i have worked there for 5 years....and what you have is common my friend and is nothing to get worked up about....it will heal

Re: slipped/ruptured disk

this is how doctors work....you go to your doctor because you have back pain he says you need to see a specialist...that visits costs you $20 for him to say 20 words....you go to the specialist....which costs you 100 dollars....if he is not busy you are going to need surgery....thats over 10grand at least that he gets....if he's busy at that time you go to PT thats conviently located right down the street that costs you 20 dollars everytime you go....of course you go 3 times a week....if that doesn't work when you go back to the doctors and he's not busy you get surgery....doctors are just a over educated buisness man at heart....

I had/have more issues from the scar tissue after the surgery...than the breaking of two vertabrea and slipping two disks. Other than, I couldn't feel my feet for almost two days b/c of swelling. Scariest time of my life. A three wheeler landed on my back and knocked me the **** out. Woke up, started it and rode it home. Chilled in the livingroom with ice until I realized...it wasn't getting better. Trust, I know surgery was my last resort. After three nerve blocks and countless hours of traction and PT. I'm pretty much good now since I've learned what to do and what not to do. :YEAH

The point, there is hope Neil. Just bust your *** and get it done. If your expecting a miracle...it won't happen.

Re: slipped/ruptured disk

have to agree with everybody never never get back surgery......i was supposed to get knee surgery on both knees.....i did exercises and strength training now i run 20+ miles a week with no problems.

my back on the other hand just sucks....for the last 4 days it's been hurting pretty bad but i would never think about getting surgery.

i did pt 3 times a week and 1 nerve test a month for 10 months and it never really got much better.

good luck man

Re: slipped/ruptured disk

I have had back pain off and on since I was 17, **** sucks. It comes and goes, wont hurt for months then wont stop hurting for months. Just this past year it got to where I could not do anything without it hurting, I finally went and had xrays done and I had a compressed disc or some ****. So, they send me to PT for a couple of months, still ******* hurt, not really any better than before. Finally after about 3-4 months, it just quit hurting for the most part. So, just give it time and it will most likely fix itself. I have read a lot about back pain and in many cases it will eventually heal itself, but it may take a long time.

With that being said you need to make sure you pay attention to what you are doing on a day to day basis. Make sure you are lifting properly and try not to lift heavy **** at all.

Re: slipped/ruptured disk

update on my condition is:
i got confirmation from the mri that i have a bulging disc between my c5 and c6 and a moderately large herniation between my c6 and c7.
after a couple weeks with the pain intensifying i was gettin real scared. looking at surgery was not making me feel good as the process for an anterior discectamy is brutal as **** and doesnt even really solve the problem and really just opens the door for more surgeries down the road. well i decided id try the chiropracter. in the days before i seen him i was in so much pain that i could not sleep, i would sleep like maybe 30 mins and wake back up in real bad pain. pain killers wouldnt do a whole lot and i ended up getting sick from them so i couldnt take em no more. i went and saw the chiro on tuesday and he did the x rays and showed me a few things. i have a flattend spine, my curvatures have planed out alot, i have a real bad habit of sleeping on couches and crap plus all the miles on my bike doesnt help, and i had some vertebre out of alignment and a couple areas 1 of them being right under where my disc problems had started. he made a couple adjustments that day and it relieved some tension immediately, i felt alot more range of motion although still alot of pain from the nerve being compressed by the disk. i hardly slept at all last night and could only get some rest when i laid on an ice pack, i was up pacing most of the night and this morning. i went and saw him again today at 930am sill in alot of pain and he then adjusted 2 more places. esentially he was making adjustments starting at the bottom of where my problem started and moving up. again i felt even more range of motion immediately and some pressure release but still quite a bit of pain. a few hours after being out of his office and i feel 100% better. i did my best to keep my head moving as motion helps the discs receed in the swelling and i kept feeling better and better. i still have the slight numbness in my fingers and some pain with some movements but i feel real confident that as the disc swelling receeds more im going to be feeling better than i did before the injury. he adjust my lower back and my shoulders and i feel like im 20 lbs lighter on my feet. i have some more visits to do so hopefully things keep looking up for me, thanks everyone for all the info and advice, i was real scared for a bit that i might not be able to ride again.
