Re: jackets
any leather is better than nothing. LEATHER. They make some new plastics and mesh that take the abuse fairly well, buy not as good as leather. I bought a "daineese" (or something) stunt armor. they sell it for anything from bicycles to snowboards... found it on e-bay, no manufacture labels or anything (sorry I'm not better help.. haha) it takes the abuse well. A bunch of small/soft falls, a couple hard falls, and one fast wobble lost in on the street wheelie, and it is fine. requires some setup and custom adjustment

Re: jackets
I got a Kawasaki branded Kushitani jacket that stands up pretty well to anything, from a ill-attempted tank wheelie to skiing accidents. Of course, it cost a pretty penny but, like anything, you get what you pay for.
I, myself, am looking at the new Icon riding vests though. They look like they could be good. Anyone that's got one care to share insight?

Re: jackets
I wear a leather dainese jacket and it's a lot more comfortable than any of the alpinestar or joe rocket jackets I have had. Just go to a shop and try stuff on to see what fits you best and is in your price range.

Re: jackets
For me I ate it in my Joe Rocket leather jacket a few times and came out without a scratch on me. Been down in my Textile too without issues. Leather will give you more confidence I found. Field armour does the trick for keeping your back from getting banged up.

Re: jackets
I have a Icon Field Armor Vest and a mesh TiMax jacket. Both are good options. I prefer riding in the vest since you don't get so hot, but I like the jacket since I don't have to worry about tearing up my arms.
